Will we still be interested in.....

...Owen? if Robbie is a success or not, will we still show interest in bringing Owen back in the summer if the clause is still in his contract which we believe is there?

Robbie fowler has come back and took a pay cut to 20k a week. Owen would come in and expect the same as gerrard, meaning over 100k a week.

Personally id rather look elswhere

20k a week, not worth getting out of bed for ;)

Wouldnt be surprised to see Cisse and Morientas leave next season which means we could need another 2 strikers (unless Flo proves his value whilst out on loan)

Id imagine Owen is still on the wanted list, if we wanted him when Newcastle got him then i dont see that changing in a few months (his goal record has been excellent). Then again the way Defoe is being treated at Spurs he could be a younger / cheaper alternative and a player without Owens injury problems.

This being a World Cup year you have to be careful potential signings dont double in value after a decent tournament.

Owen would surely know that his star has fallen below Gerrard's. It all depends on how much another top club would pay him though.

Doubtful. Rafa has consistently said that he wants players who want to play for Liverpool. Fowler certainly falls in to that category. Owen chose to talk to Newcastle after he had apparently come to an agreement with Liverpool last summer - I don't think Benitez and Parry will be making an effort to sign him again.

Owen is a better player who can play every week as well.

he's also a local, which rafa recently emphasised.

If the price is right and we can be sure the offer is accepted (ie does this no-europe clause really exist) then it seems a natural choice to me.

We won't pay anything like the reported £122k the Toon are paying him to visit the treatment room though. So I don't think it's at all 'probable' - possible maybe. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if Rafa used his name as a bargaining chip to get someone else in at a more convenient price.

agree about the wages. They sound ridiculous. He has taken a paycut to get the right move in the past though, so wouldn't rule it out. I'd have no problem with him signing as one of our top earners either.

Frankly I think it would be foolish to start messing about with Owen for a third transfer window in a row if you are not certain you will get him.

Don't think you can compare Robbie's return with Michael's (if it ever happens).

No. 2 totally differnt people with varying desires in football.

It doesnt matter anyway, we are getting kuyt. I just hope hes good, ive never seen him play.

Refreshing to hear Fowler's press conference and the only thing he talked about was his desire to play for Liverpool. No talk of ressurecting his England career or being in the shop window for SGE. Robbie will come good and IMO he will be the only ex striker to get a contract in the summer.

Don't think there's much chance of Robbie making the England team in the next 6 months. He feckin SLAUGHTERS Sven in his book. Reckons he's a long ball merchant who hasn't got a clue and in the dressing room at half-time v Brazil in the last world cup, he never said a word to the players (who had their heads down after rivaldo's equaliser in the 45th min) not one single word.

I think we'll sign Owen in the summer. Cisse will need replacing. I still think mori is playing for his future as well

the difference between Owen and Robbie is that Robbie never wanted to leave and it wasn't his decision. Owen on the other hand.....

which sounds nice but is not true.

Fowler had an offer for a contract extention on the table when he asked to leave, so he could get into the england squad ahead of the two strikers (well, ahead of one of them at least) playing ahead of him at Liverpool.

That is per Fowler himself.

If Michael had Robbie's desire to play for us, wouldn't he have forced Madrid's hand and told Newastle to feck off?

another way you can't really compare the two. Vastly different situations.

Considering how he spoke of SGE in his book, I doubt he thinks he will ever play for England as long as Sven is there no matter how well he plays, so no point in even mentioning it. He's burnt his bridges in that regard.

I think there's a good chance Robbie might prove to be Mori's replacement. Robbie is skilful and can link the play well these days, but he is also used to the Prem and he offers more of a goalscoring threat than Nando. (Robbie has to prove himself all over again though, but if he has a good 6 months I feel he could replace Morientes).

Cisse will be leaving. It just depends who Rafa wants to bring in for him. I feel it will be either Defoe or Kuyt, with Crouch, Fowler and one of Pongolle/Mellor as our 4 main strikers (all ably backed up by Kewell and Garcia).

Considering what morientes has delivered so far, you may be right.

EH? Fowler says in his book that he was never offered a new contract. It's one of the things he was so bitter about when he left - because Thompson/Houllier said in interviews that they had to sell him because his contract was running down yet they'd never discussed a new contract with him. He's adamant about that.

On the future of our strikers - apart from Crouch, all of them are on trial for the rest of the season and at least 2 are likely to go in the summer IMO. And the players know it as well so should be interesting to see how they respond.
