A LIVERPOOL betting shop has been dubbed the luckiest in Britain after a punter won £500,000 on the horses - less than a year after he won £150,000.

His huge windfall win came just six months after another racing fan helped himself to almost £800,000 in the same shop.

Management at Ladbrokes on Allerton Road say last week?s winner, who is in his 50s, staked £3,200 on a complex five-horse accumulator last Thursday.

The horses - Finzi, Passenger Omar, Shadow Jumper, OK Pal and Chicken Soup - ran atWarwick and Southwell and won at odds of 9-2, 11-4, 7-2, 4-1 and 100-30. He backed 10 £100 each way trebles, five each way four timers and a £100 each way accumulator - which returned £533,316.85.

Ladbrokes? area supervisor Vicki Spicer said: "We didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

"He had a big win last year but nothing to match this windfall. When the final horse trotted in, we all said, 'Here we go again'.?

In July last year Ian Carswell won £796,706.52 as reward for an extraordinary winning spree, whose combined odds totalled 194,000-1.

The 37-year-old combined six selections in a series of two bets, a Lucky 63 and an each-way accumulator.

As a result of the winning bet, Ladbrokes doubled their maximum return on UK and Irish racing bets from £500,000 to £1 million.

Ladbrokes spokesman Robin Hutchison said: "This shop must be the luckiest shop in Britain for the punters, but the unluckiest one for us."
