Scally the Wag Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Cheap, mean, bitter? Nah, just can't wait to see/hear Wenger (I didn't see it) grovel his way out of Deepus s***tus as the a*** start to follow the Leeds model. I make no apologies for my feelings.
Herbie von Smalls Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Leeds model? Yes, their stadium costs are massive, but you cannot compare them to Leeds, which suffered from gross mismanagement. Not the same thing.they are currently in debt to the tune of twice the amount leeds were when they went titties up. according to the times recently, they need to beat real madrid in the european tie to make an initial interest payment. apparently they have based their future revenue on qualifying for the champs' league for each of the next seven seasons - similar to leeds there. the management may be more competent than ridsdale & co., but if results don't go their way it could be the case that no amount of acumen will rescue them from disaster.
Scally the Wag Posted January 30, 2006 Author Posted January 30, 2006 Give that man a drink... Exactly Herbie, exactly. And so very very satisfying. Schadenfreud isn't it?
R A Softlad Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Agree with Herbie. It's not looking like they are faves to get a qualifying spot for the European Cup next season either so maybe their gamble may bring them unstuck a la Leeds. No guarantee that they will get 60,000 a week at the new ground either.
growler Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 the new library is not the same as leeds situation. Arsenal are building an asset, and have lots of experience in proprty and gearing of assets. As soon as the stadium is finished they will refinance, and not be any worse off. they may need to tighten their purse strings with regards to players, but I can't see them imploding like leeds. Personally, I think they have a great model, and its a great achievement to have a stadium like they will. Its a shame the fans take their flasks, soups and blankets to the games, as a 60000 will make it harder for us to generate an atmosphere for them when we play there.
Bootle Buck Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 They better get it built before they become used to losing and playing without Henry. They may well struggle to get 60,000 fans with a team that isn't winning things.
Rushian Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 according to the times recently, they need to beat real madrid in the european tie to make an initial interest payment. apparently they have based their future revenue on qualifying for the champs' league for each of the next seven seasons - similar to leeds there. The Times were shown to be talking out of their a*** though.
Scally the Wag Posted February 2, 2006 Author Posted February 2, 2006 Oh the joy continues... What with more defeats and Wenger whingeing about Henry not signing... Great stuff. Roll on Real madrid.
_00_deathscar Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Haven't they apparently offered Henry $195,000/week to stay? F*cking madness. I'd love to see them go t*** up - then Chelsea next.
Maldini Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 $195k a week is about £110k a week, around about what Gerrard is on
Lee W Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 What interests me far more than Arsenal's financial situation is the state of their team. No Campbell this weekend, Toure in Africa and the prospect of partnering the inexperienced Senderos with either Flamini or Gilberto. Add in the fact that they don't have a half-decent, fit left-back and they are in total disarray at the back. Hopefully, by the time we play them any confidence they might have will be at it's lowest. As one of our major rivals, that is very pleasing.
Maldini Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 No right back now either, Lauren is out for the season and Kerrea Gilbert went off after 27 minutes the other night and is set to miss their next game. Djourou will play at CB will he not? He's been one of their better players in recent weeks.
yellow jumper Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 birmingham must be considered strong favourites to beat them at the weekend.
AE Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 birmingham must be considered strong favourites to beat them at the weekend. Good team that Birmingham
Benitez Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 well the a*** picked one up today! Real Madrid are looking good though
Scally the Wag Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 Things is, I'd much rather us play Real than the a*** in the CL too... I never like drawing a home team in Europe.
_00_deathscar Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 $195k a week is about £110k a week, around about what Gerrard is on Ah...thought it'd be more around 150 pounds. What'ya reckon Henry is on now? Bout 90?
growler Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 if Henry hasn't signed by Walcotts 17th birthdfay, perhaps we should give him a little chat. without Henry, cole probably jumping ship, and campbell all but finished, they won't even have an english player in their first 16 let alone first 11!!! On the other hand, we won the CL last season from a similarly poor position, and real madrid are hardly the world beaters they were.
Scally the Wag Posted February 15, 2006 Author Posted February 15, 2006 So, our bad run bumped into their bad run and, well, theirs continued... Can't be too blase about our recent form but I can still continue to enjoy watching Arsenal become a much smaller club. What was it Wenger said about Millwall again? Their chances of European footy are reeceding with every game they play now.
