having a go at morientes in the footy echo today

typical snydey s**** from him...

'will he stay or will he go...

fernando morientes felt he had to put the record straight about a possible return to la liga this week.

he needn't have bothered. the wave of apathey which descends over many of us whenever morientes name is mentioned is comparable only to the feeling i had when told the new series of 'lost' begins in a few months.

when morientes actually does something of note in a liverpool shirt, perhaps more people will care if he stays or not.'

Haven't seen article so don't know what he's saying.

However - maybe bascombe's as disappointed as some of us with Morientes since he's been here.

What an unneccesary c ntish thing to say.

While plenty remain to be convinced about Morientes 100% (I'm not one of them, believing him to be a class act), I don't think anyone 'doesn't care' whether he gets to the form he expects of himself.

Personally, I think springing Moro and Robbie from the bench might be a devastating back up weapon if we need goals between now and the end of the season (with the obvious implication that Moirientes will start a lot more games than robbie)

Cheers Mike.

I don't like the tone of Bascombe's report but I have to agree with the overall appraisal. For me, Moro has been a big disappointment. People say he needs the service - but I've seen him get the service time and again - and fluff it up. Slow to react and surprisingly poor in the air considering his reputation (headed goal against Charlton last season apart). If he was as good as some people say his is then we wouldn't be clamouring for a goal-scorer and we probably wouldn't have brought Robbie back. If we could get anywhere near our money back on him I'd snatch their hand off.

I can only say I disagree Les. I think his work off and on the ball is of the top drawer.

The disappointment has obviously been the lack of goals. That does need to improve.

100% in agreement. he is quality and brings quality.

What does he provide that Crouch doesn't?

There's no doubt he has more finesse than Crouch but that's it. Crouch works just as hard, holds the play up better, brings people into the game just as effectively (esp Gerrard) and is better in the air for flicks and knock downs. Both lack pace and both lack goals but the difference for me is that Crouch is used to playing in the EPL - whereas Moro still struggles.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. Lost is a great show. Though you should all be downloading the second series each week.

On the subject of Nando, he's been looking better with every game he plays and his link up work has really come on leaps and bounds. The better service we put into the box, the better his goalscoring will become.

morientes has incredible vision, his deftness and eye for a pass are dalglish esqu in my book.

as has been said, we could do with him scoring more, but you can say that about all our forwards.

i also disagree with you about his heading...

I think he needs to show more physical strength. It's the main thing holding him back as he is always being knocked off the ball before he has time to show his ability

He also could do with going more than a month without picking up a knock if possible. That's also held him back

I'd guess given how ruthless Rafa can be that he has between now and the summer to improve or face the possibilty of joining Djibril out the door

Almost sounds as if he's trying to clear a path for someone.

We'll see.

I'd be surprised if he's still here three transfer windows from now.

His injury came at a crap time for him. He was just coming into his own.

When we see Moro in full flight (and I think we will), we'll all see just what it is he brings.

Peronally, I think he could build a devastating last 30 partnership with Fowler.

See? Right there, "When we see Moro in full flight".

Really - how long are we gonna have to wait? I just don't know how long he's got.

I really hope you're right about the partnership with Fowler. Time will tell.

Is right...one of the reservations I had about Fowler returning was that certain numbers of fans and certain members of the local press (and a few national) would suddenly get all parochial on us again and show their support for Fowler by knocking the 'foriegn flops' (which Moro most certainly isn't - who scored both goals in the win over Boro recently, the second being real class?). I'd like to think this isn't the case and I'm over-reacting - but unfortunately I've seen too much of this kind of crap from Bascombe before. How long before Rafa makes him persona non-grata in his turn if he keeps this up?

In a way I agree with Bascombe.. Morientes has been a big disappointment for me. I've never been that impressed with him tbh, but at least I saw him hit the net once in a while when he played for Real. When he's playing for us you never expect him to score, he shows some good touches now and then, but is never a real threat. His 'killer instinct' seems to have vanished. It's true that his overall play has been better during the last two months, but he still doesn't look like scoring, and Crouch is better at bringing the midfield into play. I'll give him the rest of the season to prove his worth, but if he doesn't I fully expect Rafa to replace him in the summer.
