Of course im just sepculating but I have no reasons to believe that Rafa didn't want Wallcott, not only is he younger then Fowler, but he is exciting and has a Henry esq feeling about him, his dometic attriubtes as in the games he is illegible and in-leggible for is equal to Fowler and in my view Wallcott would of been a good signing and would offer much more in the futre then Fowler.

From what I've heard, the a*** will be paying more than 5 mil, a lot more, in fact, all performance-based payments of course, so yet, he wouldn't be a ripoff if he doesn't perform

You can't say for sure though as Fowler coming here was dependent on City getting another striker in. The guy they're after has now "gone on strike" so it's probable they'll get their man in the next few days. By allowing Fowler leave, they can offer more for the player too. So it probably was all wrapped up in that negotiation etc and the timing of the move dependent on it.
