My Thoughts On The Match

(1) Disappointed that we didn't take them to the cleaners. We are far better than them and we dominated but the reason we failed today was mainly due to the inability of Cisse to play sodding football. He was terrible. He did nothing right all day and I'm surprised that Rafa didn't bring on FSP for him at half time.

(2) I feel bad for Rafa as Kromkamp made two mistakes in two minutes on the pitch which cost us a point. He ball watched next to Finnan and let Evra in, resulting in a booking for Finnan, before falling asleep at a decisive point in the game to let Ferdinand have a free header. I'm not knee jerking, but Kromkamp is going to have to really show something in his next appearance to convince me that he has the ability to play in a hustle and bustle league. He looks positively frightened out there and doesn't appear to exactly have much of a first touch.

(3) I'm delighted to say that I think we'll be far, far better than Man U next season. They know they've gotten away from it. They know that Rafa is building a fantastic team and they will not look forward to playing us again.

(4) Rooney should have been sent off for the foul on Sinama. Deliberate attempt to scythe him down and Riley bottled it.

(5) Kewell was our best performer again I think. We didn't capitalise when we had opportunities to put quality ball into the box but Kewell put in a strong display.

(6) If Riise takes another of those free kicks I will honestly stop watching.

I'm not that upset we lost against manure as their fans also suspect this was their last cup final of the season. Whereas we should easily see us finishing second at least.

However, today we lost because of certain things I could see on the pitch that didn't feel right. And that was down to our manager who is human after all.

1) I was shouting for Cisse to be pushed out right after 20 minutes of seeing him being useless up front. He has looked very dangerous for us there and would have created big problems for Evra. Gerrard behind Crouch would have also offered more problems for Brown/Rio.

2) Sissoko's passing was sh*t for most of the game, he could/should have been taken off for Pongolle in 2nd half. Pushing Sissoko right was the end of any chance we might have had of winning this game.

3) Bringing Kromkamp on...NOOOOOOOO!!! I screamed at the tele for that decision. I know we should give him time to settle but the small amounts of time I've seen him, there is not much difference between him and Ali Dae!!! The goal game because Finnan was exposed due to 12 year old defending from a not-match-ready Kromkamp.

4) Our players were sh*tting themselves throughout the game. I've never seen them this nervous...why? It wasn't Chelsea or AC Milan...maybe the hype got to them and Benitez couldn't do enough to convince them otherwise.

However, I am quite looking forward to Benitez realising these little chinks (thank God he's a quick learner). The new 'learns' should see us comfortably put aside Birmingham in our next league game. Roll on the season, roll on the progress! :D

Totally agree, especially with the Kromkamp part.

1) Cisse stank, he'd have stank on the right just as much

2) poor quality pitch, there were loads of misplaced passes from all players on both sides

3) so after about 10 minutes in a red shirt, Kromkamp isn't good enough, good grief

4) didn't look like they were s***ting themselves to me as they controlled much of the game

I don't know you from Adam mate. But I think I'd much rather have Rafa in charge than you. Get a grip.

And, yeah mate, so would I.

Is there a point to your post?

Andy Townsend, take a bow.

Yes there is. I think your being a bit knee jerk with your reaction. Fair enough we lost, but its not the end of the world. To blame Kromkamp is just ridiculous. Pushing Cisse to the right would have done f*** all. The guy is headless when he gets the ball to his feet.

I was trying to put an honest opinion on a public forum. Fair enough you don't agree, but I'm not kneejerking.

My disclaimer is clear: I'm not unhappy about losing this too much and our manager is easily the best in Europe at the moment.

I don't think BigChief is saying it's the end of the world at all. He's pinpointed areas which Rafa made mistakes in.

Sometimes I think Rafa can over complicate matches. The lads were very controlled (perhaps nervous as well) but Rafa maybe needs to say to them - look, you can win this - go out there and play them off the park.

And bringing on Kromkamp was his biggest mistake.

I hope Benitez reads this as, he could learn from your brilliant insights

Now you have identified all Liverpool's problems maybe you could turn your genious to solving would hunger. ;)

No, the biggest mistake was leaving Kronkamp to defend the first zone (maybe that wasn't the plan but it's how it worked out) at he free kick.

He obviously hasnt had the time to learn the zonal system.

No big deal. Shyt game, deserved a draw, will still beat United to second spot (scraps off Chelsea's table isn't what we're in this for anyway)

1) Cisse stank, i second that.

2) poor quality pitch?not so bad IMO,rooney played perfectly on that pitch,me think.

3) kronkamp on the pitch just before the end?very poor tactical decision, even if i love rafa.

4) they were s***ting themselves?i don't think so.me think man utd were better physically.

alonso, gerrard and sissoko(especially on the right hand side) weren't good.

Gees, the lad is just saying what he saw out on the pitch.

I wondered myself why Cisse stayed on the pitch as long as he did.

I wondered why Kromkamp was coming on for Sissoko.

We should have gone for the jugular and part of the blame lays at Rafa's door, not just the players.

In my opinion, we lost because we got tired in the last 15 minutes or so, particularly our midfield. Natural enough, given the bog of a pitch and the programme of games we've had this season.

Was a bit disappointed again with our attacking set pieces.

Much better to lose to the Mancs on the back of 12 great results than to lose to them while struggling to break into the top 4 [ like last season ].

Sorry but Kronkamp looks a shocking player and he dropped Finnan right in it.

I'm sure he's got far more in his locker but he's looked totally out of his depth so far.

I would play him in the second half against Portsmouth next Sunday as they are a bad team and hopefully we'll have a comfy lead. THAT is the right time to be introducing him is what I'm saying. I'm not saying sack Rafa or sell Kromkamp!

In fact, I would even start with Agger alongside Carra for that one if Rafa thinks he's ready.

Momo was dead on his knees and Kromkamp had to come on. While he did make a couple of mistakes I will not judge him until I have seen him for a full season but I dont think anyone can overtake Finnan so he'll have to get used to a RM role
