Chelsea's and Newcastle's lawyers must have received a call this evening. Possibly. Allegedly. Scot said: LOL! You'd like that! Be MADE up if it were Newcastle. They do my box in. I am still of the opinion that something very dodgy went off with the transfers of Woodgate and Owen.

Falconhoof Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Madrid can't have known that they'd need to offload Owen when they bought Woodgate. The two transfers aren't connected obviously. Except for the fact that the fees in both cases were massively above the market rate and in hindsight can be seen to be reciprocal. Its just that, in neither case can I see an advantage for the buying club. What did Madrid have to gain by buying Woodgate for stupid money ?
Bailo Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I think Figaro alluded to Camacho getting a fair whack of the Woodgate fee didn't he?

Without mentioning any names like Didn't the Rangers chairman, Murray, admit recently that Souness is still a close friend and tries to help out the club whenever he can. The Newcastle fans certainly think that they paid way over the top for Boumsong and they have their suspicions as to why.

Doubt someone who had so little influence would be involved like that. Anyone pocketing cash at such clubs, would be those high up, doing the wheeling and dealing. Allegedly and all that. Anyway, this is to do wit English clubs ain't it.
meepins Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 portsmouth blatantly in there and 'arry the geezer
elmer dinkley Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 I thought this comment at the end of the article was odd... "... and the pressure may now be on Eriksson to reveal what he knows just four-and-a-half months before the start of the World Cup." Reveal to who, the English FA? His employers? If SGE is aware of these stories and they're not, then what kind of f***ing ship are they running? I'm sure they know full well but they've tried to keep it quiet. Can we not get a pitchfork-wielding, wooden torch-carrying angry mob together and march on the FA headquarters and burn them all as witches? And if not, why not?
Spike Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Before we get too excited we have Diao, Diouf and Cheyrou all of which have led to spectacular losses and there is the UEFA investigation into certain transfers from the French league.
Cam Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Surely number 1 is 'Arry??? Or is calling him 'Coach X' rather than 'Manager X' a clue? Souness never really had any lingering claims about dodgy dealings before the Boumsong story in all fairness. Though the Ali Dia story still amazes me.

Aye, I was thinking that, Cisse deal as well always seemed a bit stinky to me. I think they are referring to last season tho aren't they, so Diouf/Diao deals would be from far further back. First one he's refering to has to be Redknapp. 2nd one could be Ferguson or Maureenho. Although the fact they say he 'no longer deals with', suggests maybe it's someone who's been here for a long while, thefore more likely to be Ferguson. But then again, with all the rumours of Eriksson sticking his nose in all things Chelsea during Euro 2004, who knows! 3rd one: "At the risk of being presumptuous, do not, I will not allow you to make the mistake that (Club Three) did and certain other clubs by paying far too much for certain players because of illegal deals with agents and managers, or even agents and chief executives, or even agents and chairmen. It's a cesspit!" Mmmmm, does sound a bit Newcastle like that doesn't it? But also Chelsea like as well But that 'paying too much for certain players', could easily refer to a few of our past dealings and a couple other clubs I'm sure as well. Anyway, all names in this post are covered by the obligatory 'allegedly' Edited January 22, 2006 by Benitez

Exactly. Whilst I'd be surprised if we were one of the clubs, I don't think we should be overly confident that we are in the clear. I don't see what evidence SGE would have, so more than likely he is just passing on rumours he has heard, so I doubt anything will come of it.

Liverpoolway Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 From a norwegian newspaper: "Harry Redknapp is corrupt, and you may quote me (Niels-Christian Holmstrøm) on that". It had something to do with Redknapp trying to sign Brede Hangeland from Viking.
Bootle Buck Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 The Owen transfer has always baffled me. No offers on the table for him and the barcodes come in with a 16 million bid. How can you bid that high with no other takers.

Sion Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Just said on Beb he's stepping down after WC! Hooray! Not good for our WC chances though!
Bootle Buck Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 (edited) There is immediately a "Director of player recruitment" position opened at Chelsea. Sven will be starting his networking during the WC. Edited January 23, 2006 by Bootle Buck
