Gray - YPC Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Evidently Mellor set up the first for Roberts and Davey Thommo scored the second to male it 2-0!! And my mate's been taken off after 27 minutes just before the second goal?? If that's not because he's injured McLaren's lost it!!
Magic8Ball Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Well done, Neil!Hope he builds on this and become the leathal striker I think he can be, playing for us.He'll only play for us regularly if he improves his movement and ball retention there is no doubting his goal scoring ability though
floyd Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 So glad he scored against Boro. Fvckin hate the club and the town.
owenthomas Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 thinking about it - could Mellor have gone to a better place for a loan move?? Wigan, under Jewell, must be a cracking little place to get a bit more experience.. So glad he scored against Boro. Fvckin hate the club and the town.infinite amounts of
Beardsley Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 He'll only play for us regularly if he improves his movement and ball retention there is no doubting his goal scoring ability though Think you are far too harsh on the kid. When his knees held up, his movement was pretty good - imo.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Have Boro - top 4 club and bigger than Liverpool - lost again and continued to plummet towards relegation ? The very same Boro (10 goals conceded in 2 games)
Magic8Ball Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Think you are far too harsh on the kid. When his knees held up, his movement was pretty good - imo.I'm just being as hard on him as the forum is being on Cisse to be honest I would love Mellor to do well at Liverpool far cheaper than Owen and a good potential replacement for Morientes
owenthomas Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Have Boro - top 4 club and bigger than Liverpool - lost again and continued to plummet towards relegation ?i knew i'd seen this referred to somewhere on here tonight.. do you know exactly what was said about them being 'bigger than Liverpool'?? i've seen this referred to a couple of times now but never saw the actual comment whenever it was said.. ta!
G Richards Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 When I think about Mellor I think about someone who is not all that athletic and not all that fast. But he does know where the net is, and, if given a chance, will score you goals. Dunno if that will mean he's finished with us or not, but I'll offer this final thought. When Rushie left for Juventus and we brought Aldo in, I thought 'Oh crap, here we go'. I mean, compared to Rushie, Aldo was a snail. And besides, who the hell were Oxford (if memory serves me correctly!) Then Aldo scored. And scored again. And scored again and again. By the time we brought Rushie back home Also had done well enough that there was sensible debate as to which striker we should retain. If Neil Mellor turns out to be some sort of modern day Aldo then I'll be gutted if we let him go. But will we find out how good he is if we keep him?
Magic8Ball Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Le Tallec has scored as wellLe Tallecs performances have been better of late. The thing is Le Tallec plays better alonside a pacey striker still it would have been better had Le Tallec and Mellor both turned out and scored for Wigan
Awrence Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 They just ran Paul Jewel and Neil Mellor's interviews back to back on Sky and they good be father and son!
Guest JimmyJames Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 (edited) Nice to see Neil hitting it off like that. Would love to see him back scoring in abundance next season. It's not THAT far fetched is it? He certainly has that rare gift of finding himself enough space to get off a shot or a header. Not unlike *cough* a lad name Robert.. Earl Hafler Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 i knew i'd seen this referred to somewhere on here tonight.. do you know exactly what was said about them being 'bigger than Liverpool'?? i've seen this referred to a couple of times now but never saw the actual comment whenever it was said.. ta! It was McLaren after they won the Worthy and before they played us in the 03/04 season, i.i.r.c
owenthomas Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 ta.. i'll have a google and see if i can find the quote to have a gander.. cheers mate..
Bootle Buck Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Perfect move for the lad as he will get chances under Jewell. Let's hope he keeps scoring and we get him back in the summer.
Kahnee Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Sadly they have played Chelsea home and away already so no Mellor-Time against Jose. Made up for Davey Thompson, he has always been a cracking player when fit. Him and Stevie G came on the scene at the same time, and I remember a game where we beat Sheff Wed 4-2 at home and Thommo and Stevie both stole the show in one of their early games, shame injuries have held him back but well done for today. 4-1 it was
Earl Hafler Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 ta.. i'll have a google and see if i can find the quote to have a gander.. cheers mate.. I seem to remember it being at a press conference. Boro had won their first trophy since man came out of the caves and were challenging for a CL spot. McLaren went into a routine more recently performed by Moyes " We are great, we're going to win everything, we're better than Liverpool ".
owenthomas Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 you know what, that actually rings a bell now.. i can't find eff all on google like but i do actually kind of remember something along those lines now.. "Boro had won their first trophy since man came out of the caves"
Paul_LFC Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 4-1 it was Darn it - that was actually an honest slip of the finger there, I did know it was 4-1 but thanks for correcting me Captain.
