A game strangely not mentioned very often

4-0 against the Mancs at Andield... Beardsley hat-trick. Other than that, memory's a bit hazy - slick passing move ending up with Beardo passing it into the net from about five yards? Everyone stops for offside, same man goes on to lob Schmeichel(?)...

I know the suprstitious among us probably won't want to dwell on this particular game right now, but it seemed an appropriate moment to ask if anyone has more detailed memories of this righteous day... the game is never mentioned very often for some reason...

Funnily enough it did get a lot of mentions recently. Sky were testing a new sports channel, and that game was one of the handful of programmes transmitted - it was repeated lots of times, and I enjoyed watching it lots of times! Still the old 80s team then but it wouldn't be long before the Souness tsunami swept it all away.

(September 1990. Beardsley hat-trick and Barnes the other).

I remember les sealy (schmeicel came a bit after 1990 i think) kicking the ball into the kop after the game so peter beardsley didnt get the matchball to keep for his hatrick.

remember that game, even though we tonked them as regards the score, im sure they gave quite a good account of themselves and had a few chances they should have scored from.

I was there with my then MD (a Manc fanatic) and his (then very young) Son.

They wee not happy! They (Utd) wore that stupid (Adidas) blue & white kit that appeared pale blue from a distance.

I went to Scummy Towers a few times in return (we lost both times I recall) with him & always observed that he could (quietly) declare his team & have banter with those around (Paddock) at Anfield. At their hole I was 'rounded on' within 5 minutes for not having 'joined in' or given the vitriol against Liverpool, and had to lie (hating it) "I'm Neutral" fearing for my cranium's protection.

Strange thing about that game, in a way, is that it sort of marked the end of an era. If memory serves it was virtually, if not the last, of a long run of wins we had at the begining of the 90/91' season. We opened the campaign with something like 10 wins in 11 games and looked unbeatable and on our way to number 19.

We fell apart after that and things wuz ne'er the same again......
