Andyjandy Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Doesnt look "Solid" dealing with crosses. Doesnt seem to hold onto meaty shots as well as he could. In his favour; Great at one-on-ones, positioning, filling a sweeper roll, Distribution. My point is i hear alot of people saying he is the best, or in the top 3 in the league. I really dont think i have seen ehough of him to put him in that bracket as of yet. He has all the extra bit to his game with the sweeping and distribution, but i still think he lacks the solid and consistant aura that world class keeper have. Cech is the best in the league, with Robinson and Given the two next best.
Clay Davis Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 To be fair he hasn't really been tested, he hasn't been given a chance to perform even the way Kuszack did against us. He's been solid and looked commanding and had amazing positioning IMO and i think its harsh to pass negative judgement yet.
Andyjandy Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 NAh im not trying to be negative, just highlighting the fact that he hasnt looked like a world class keeper yet.
MarkD Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 His presence and positioning are like Schmeichel at his best and Schmeichel's best was 3 years into the Premiership. This guy has been here 6 months, keeping clean sheet after clean sheet - as part of a great defence - and we have a thread knocking him. Excellent - best fans in the world.
Rimbeux Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Robinson and Given both see a lot more work, and don't have to worry about concentration so much, but when they do.... Also one is very slow off his line, and the other is suspect on crosses and physical battles under the high ball, maybe due to his stature. I like Reina, I think he's got balls and strength of body and purpose, he fits us very well indeed.
disco_volante Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 given looks better then he is due to the lack of defence around him, Robinson is a good shot stopper but i think recently getting a bit of the david james about him. Renia is 2nd best in the league to cech IMO. He's still young and is prone to the odd error, but you don't get the amount of clean sheets that he has without being top quality. You just have to compare our defence last season to see that.
The La Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Well that's me convinced fo sho. Con he cutch? No, Pinch only
sbaros Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 So his clean sheet record both for us and Villareal count's for nothing then? Along with his peno record(For villareal, obviously 1-1 for us) Plus the fact he's catching shots and fk's very few keepers in the world can hold, oh and the fact that his timing on running out + his pace is superb, and don't forget 1 on 1's to.. I don't think anyone says he's the best in the world, but he's defo top3 in the prem, and could well become one of the very best, still only 23 yrs old..
Scally Bob Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 That save from Mido just after we'd scored showed that he has great concentration: Dudek or James would have still been celebrating mentally. He commands his area-would you get in his way? And his handling on crosses is already very good even though La Liga doesn't see as many crosses that 'keepers get challenged on. He's steady and doesn't panic. His distribution is getting better. What more do you want? And anyone who goes on about the first Bolton goal needs certifying.

Bootle Buck Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 (edited) Bollix The lad has come into a new country, a new style of play and language issues. Despite a somewhat shakey start and a couple of errors at Bolton he has been superb. Many times at home we have dominated games yet have let the opposition have some key chances. In most situations Reina has saved the day. He makes things look a lot simpler than they really are too. You can't have a run of clean sheets without having a solid keeper and up to now Reina has been that. Edited January 17, 2006 by Bootle Buck
anny road Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 best defensive record in the league One club scored agaisnt us at home he has pulled off saves late on in games when he has had little to do never looks out of position Punches well his defence have full confidence in what he is doing he is 23 World class? yes or no?? Not f***ing arsed... NEXT????
Earl Hafler Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Cech, Reina and Robinson are the best 3 keepers in the league, with VDS and Given probably next. Then there are 6 or 7 who can have days when nothing is getting past them ( Freidel, Maik Taylor etc ) Reina is a brilliant keeper and one of the fastest i've seen, combining it with good, decisive judgement. Throwing and kicking are better than Cech and Robinson.

Sara Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Not seen enough of him to put him in the top 3 yet you think you've seen enough of him to slate him. Just when I think I haven't seen it all, something like this happens.
RP Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Just when I think I haven't seen it all, something like this happens. Can't get my head round that phrase.
StevieC Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I warmed to him during the betis away game. Two FKs from a dangerous set piece taker and he took both of them with contemptuous ease through excellent posititoning and handling. He rarely needs to do the spectacular stuff. Which is nice.
KBR Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I've seen enough of him to say he is quality! Even though it's only been six months. I can't remeber the last time I felt this confident, with any new keeper we had, even after a year of settling in. I start every game now thinking we'll keep a clean sheet... when was the last time anyone even dared think that let alone it likely to happen? Your way off the mark... Reina is brilliant.
Couldbe Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 We had a thread about this before christmas and then he started playing, to use a well worn phrase, world-class. Hope feck this one has n't put the mockers on his form before we go to the old toilet. Pointless thread though. Some people just don't know when they have a good thing. Reina is the best keeper we have had since Bruce.
