RafaTheGaffa Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi admits he already harbours dreams of managing his home town club. The popular Geordie has been a Magpie all of his career so far and, entering the prime years of his playing days, is beginning to make plans for the future. Ameobi has already secured his Uefa B licence and is currently in the process of gaining his A licence by working with Newcastle's youth teams, alongside Alan Shearer. Current Newcastle incumbent Graeme Souness has been full of praise for Ameobi's impact in the dressing room, with the player conceding that he craves the top job at St James' Park. ''I've said all along, no matter what, next ten seasons will be my last as a player,'' said Ameobi. ''I have other goals in my career now. Who knows - fifteen or twenty years down the line, I could be coming back here. ''You have to set targets and that would be the one if I went into that side of the game. ''However long it takes, that would be the eventual goal. People know how much this club means to me and if I was lucky enough to come back as a manager, they would get 100 percent out of me. ''It is not a job for the faint-hearted but it is a great job. For a Geordie like me, the best bar none.''
Benitez Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 he's better qualified than Souness then! I'm sure Souness doesn't have UEFA coaching badges
ManxRed Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 The position's going to be vacant fairly soon as well! Go Shola, go Shola, go Shola...
RafaTheGaffa Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 Yep. Souness doesn't have any coaching badges. He's a premership manager based purely on his abaility as a player. Crazy....
Mono Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Ameobi has already secured his Uefa B licence and is currently in the process of gaining his A licence by working with Newcastle's youth teams, alongside Alan Shearer. Well he might as well do something with all the spare time he has on Saturday afternoons
Vlad JNR Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Are you sure about Souness? I thought it was a requirement that all managers have got coaching licenses. When Eddie Gray was installed as the Leeds manager wasn't there a bit of a kerfuffle because he didn't have any coaching qualifications.
McBain Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 (edited) Things must be bad for a manager when the 3rd worst player at the club wants his job Edited January 17, 2006 by Mcbain
Spike Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 with a coaching team of Bramble, Boumsong, and with Woodgate returning as club doctor
_00_deathscar Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Wow. And Geordies thought things couldn't get any worse.
