The Kop

One of the best receptions for a while given to Robinson today, and he responded in kind.

Years ago The Kop would have sung "England's No.1" to him, and then quickly followed by "Carson for England"

Total lack of humour from The Kop today

And atmosphere, yet again.

thought Paul Robinson was class today, both as a player, and for his reaction. Although of course i knew he was a very good goalie anyway!

But really nice reaction from him, not just a little recognition to being applaued. But responding to all areas of the Kop, and the lower Cent and Paddock. And a thumbs up. Very classy.

agree Kev.... Robinson got a great reception and they way he responded was first class, I very much admire him... he seemed to acknowledge every block in the Kop with a personal round of applause.

onto the atmosphere.... the Spurs fans were very loud.... I was sat near the dugout. Hats off to them, they didn't stop singing until Kewell scored, then they stopped for two minutes and started again.... it tailed off toward the end, but they were the loudest I have heard in the PL this season..

Once again our fans were not to be heard, apart from one good rendition of 'in istanbul' and 'FOAR'.... its pretty embarassing really.... we accuse players of being 'big game players', I think the majority of our fans are 'big game fans'....

It was very very quiet today, it got to a point where you could hear the players even from my vantage point.

Something has to be done about unreserved seats in The Kop.

funny, cos the Spuds fans didnt really seem to me as that loud - but then I was sat at the kop end of the paddock. Defo heard better and louder this season.

Where they singing about Chelsea, Arsenal and us as they usually do? Cos really, i couldn't hear that much from them. Apart from that appalling 'ello ello (insert random team name here)' and the equally appalling 'shall we sing a song for you'. So I put 'em down in the highly unoriginal group again.

As for us, I dont know why people are shocked. Although I didn't think it was that poor to be honest - maybe that's how bad it's become for weekend league games! But it wasn't half as bad as some other games this season.

Speaking of keepers, anyone remember when Tim Flowers had decided to sign for Blackburn instead of us, and came to Anfield in what must have been one of his last games for Southampton? First half he got loads of jip, and then for the second he came out before the rest of the teams, stood in the center circle, and raised his arms in the air as if he were champion of the world, bringing on applause from all sides...

Or was it my imagination?

nope it aint just you! I remember that game too. Although not happening quite like that - cos I dont recall semething happening at the start of the 2nd half. I thought it was at the end he applaued the Liverpool fans, and got a heck of an ovation. So not sure really! But I do remember him getting a great response.

Funny that, I distinctly remember it being before the beginning of the second half. Flowers had taken a lot of abuse for turning us down in favour of a not unChelseaesque Blackburn, and still in those days (been a few years since I've been able to get to Anfield) all goalkeepers were warmyl welcomed on approaching the Kop, even Schmeichel... so everyone was wondering what was going to happen. It was quite bizarre what he did, in a way extremely big-headed, but he won everyone over with his sheer flambouyance.

you're probably right mate! Cos i just cant remember exactly what happened. I just remember being there, and Flowers applauding the fans and getting a great reception, despite the fact he'd chosen to go to Rovers.

And the capacity will be reduced.

sounds like he played everyone for c*nts then.

jokes aside he's sounded a top bloke by all accounts.

I vaguely remember that day. The way I remember it, it was still up in the air as to which team he was signing for and Grobelaar came out with a bunch of flowers, put them in the net and said to the front of the Kop 'this in the only flowers you'll be finding in the Liverpool net this season'. We gave flowers stick all game and then gave him a massive ovation at the end which he responded well to, everyone around me in the kop was certain that flowers would now decide to join us........................

Full of woolybacks and norwegians. Has been for ten years now

Atmosphere will not improve untill youngsters get a chance to get in there like the old days with pay on the day tickets available

Instead what we have now is a load of thirtysomethings who used to sing ten years ago when they got their season tickets and now are middle aged miserable f'ckers but wont give up there season ticket cos it is so hard to get tickets for games now days.

The natural flow of fans has been disrupted, we need a bigger staduim as a matter of urgency.

How do you work that out ?

12,000 seats = 12,000 tickets sold = job's a goodun ;)

On the plane to Istanbul, a group of young lads were singing The Reds Are Coming Up the Hill. That's next on my list, although I've never heard anyone trying to start it up on the Kop while I've been at a game.

My favourite LFC song.

And it was sung by the Kop during the second half on Saturday

:guns: What do you mean? We Norwegians don't sing and shout our throats off? I for one couldn't speak for a week after my last game! MUST be swedes - they're known for their "civilized" support :bleh:;)

If you want to learn the songs, old and new, get yourself into block 202. They sing them all regularly, unfortunately few people join in these days leading to a new version of "Red & White Kop" that goes "We all dream of a Kop that f*cking sings".

I swapped my Main Stand Season Ticket for a Kop Ticket on Saturday to help a mate. Nostalgic at first as I ended up in roughly the same spec I stood at when the Kop was my Home (and bored my lad stupid with tales of those days and the characters, like Loud Bert).

I was absolutely amazed, being used to a spec surrounded by regulars and a few corporates, to see how many tourist parties there were around. No objection to our continental supporters at all, glad to have you around, but I would have guessed around 30% of the crowd. There was a huge contingent of Borussia Moenchengladbach supporters, and from the hand signals going on between different rows and blocks, they were all over the place

As most of the Kop is S-T holders its a fair bet to say that most of it IS regulars.

I was in the KOP on New Year's Eve and it was sung then.

That's the problem, as Huyton said, they are all been there done that fans who get in five minutes before kick off and leave at the stroke of full time.

I always try and get tickets for the KOP for the European games because the atmosphere is immense and I sing my heart out. However, I don't do that every week because I sit in the Lower Centenary and it's like a morgue.

IMO the problem with the atmosphere is that it is generated in the pubs and disappates in the ground. Lock everyone in 30 mins before kick off and we would have no alternative but to generate an atmosphere.

Since it became all seater the need to get in early has gone and THAT has killed the atmosphere in the ground.

Friday night there was loads of swedes on there who come over for the game swigging whisky straight from litre bottles like it was milk

Animals they are :)

A litre bottle of whiskey here is cheaper than milk in Sweden. No wonder they where making the most of it.

You go for a quick wazz and find yer seat has gone. So you sit in another- that was someone elses. Can see problems with that theory!

If you're with your mates it not a problem, if you're not just ask the guy beside it to hold it for you.

I think it might lead to a better atmosphere as people would go in earlier to get a good seat.
