Okey dokey mate. I'm just back from the game and I thought it was a well deserved, hard fought victory over a tough, well organised side. This was Fazakerly the kind of opposition that were always going to be a huge test and I think we came through that test with flying colours. The defence, Keane's early chance in the second half apart, stood up well and though there were few midfield heros, that was because of the opposition and not a decline in our player's performance. Gerrard and Alonso were not their usual imperious selves and what I wouldn't give for a striker who can create a chance or a goal from nothing. It seems you have to hand gilt-edged opportunities to the three that were on today on a platter. Still, Cisse was fast and dangerous when he came on and for me, did more in the time he had than Moro and Crouch did for the time they were on. But at long last, the team is playing like a team and are better than the sum total of its parts. If I was to give ratings, I would give them like this. Reina 7 (not much to do)Carragher 8Hyypia 8Finnan 7Riise 7 Gerrard 7Alonso 7Kewell 7Sissoko 7 Crouch 6Morientes 6 Subs Cisse 7 Team performance 8.

Spion kop Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 (edited) Riena 8 excellent saves when needed and command of his box. Finnan 6 caught out a few times Riise 6 caught out more than anyone else and couldn't handle jenas got good attacking playHyppia 8 midfield playmaker at some points in the game kept mido out of the game after a difficult first 5 minutesCarragher 7 Impressive in all defensive duties no real need for a last minute wonder tackle thoughKewwel 9 MOM ran past people scored the goal dragged defenders towards him, crosses and created space with quick feetAlonso 7 dodgy balls at times got stuck in a dictated paceSissiko 8 another game of the mommos trademark wonderful and woefull more fomer then latter though more energy than the duracell bunny.Gerrard 8 had a good influence on the game had trouble losing davids though and shot from far too great a distanceCrouch 6 kept mostly out of the game his feet did find some useful passesMorienties 7 some excellent headers but the spurs defence were really on top of thier game today. Team performance 8.5 an excellent performance against a well displined and energetic spurs who closed down quickly all the game and played some good football. 1 point behind second 2 games in hand we win at old trafford 2nd is ours. madaboutlfc Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Gerrard was poor in the second half.. too many long shots when there was a better player in position.. Crouch was poor as well
David Hodgson Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Gerrard was poor in the second half.. too many long shots when there was a better player in position.. Crouch was poor as well ...and I thought Xabi had his worst game in living memory. Hyypia was outstanding.
mercury Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 (edited) Reina at long last needed to save and save well from a clear chance of Mido. Do the rest well except for one dodgy kick. Keane a bad miss an one on one at 10 (?) yards but some credit to Reina - he is quick off his line. Carra and Hyypia in fine form. Finnan my MOTM. Our Mr Consistency and another goal from his cross. Riise: average to just above average. Nearly costed us a goal in the opening second half then get tartgetted. Survived, then get stronger as the match march on. Midfield is average at bes. Xabi under par. Gerrard's passes were a bit disarray in teh 1st. Swapped with Momo and moved to centre and that was a key move. Momo, well, many put him down as MOTM. A bit surprised. He was great 2nd half, the passes worked better too, but the first his usual self: a monster spoiler but jsut can't keep possession for us. Kewell was excellent, an excellent goal apart his possession and passes was top notch. His pass at teh corner flag at the end to Riise, created a chance for Momo which was saved by Robinson, was just great. Crouch and Mori both worked hard, especially Mori did a lot of harassing. Both have some decent chances but credit to their goalie / defence. Cisse was OK, very little to play on. As a whole not the best performance of the team but Spurs is a good team and played good football. Am I the only one very relieved that we have a week to recover before the next game? madaboutlfc Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 ...and I thought Xabi had his worst game in living memory. Hyypia was outstanding.Xabi was average but he had a hand in the goal with the glorious ball to Finnan.. I thought Sissoko was good but this was poor performance in comparison to ones before.. some positives like Riise passing the ball out of defence under pressure was good to see..

Morgul Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Kewell was fantastic. He is really starting to look like his old self again. Always on the run, making small but effective tricks and now also scoring again. I am so happy that we have him, and Speedy is going to have to be some player to take his place!
Cunny Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 quietish first half which we shaded, creating 3 chance to Spurs 0 second hlf was much more interesting - Keane had a very good chance early on and Mido worked Reina right after our goal. But overall Reina could have had his deckchair out today. We ere nowhere near our best but still more than good enough - which is most pleasing.Momo got my MOTM, just edging Harry. It was a mature and disciplined performance from Momo.
Internationinteroperability Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Hyypiä was fantastic today. If we just sign a new centre back every week, he might keep playing like he did today? Kewell, Finnan and Sissoko were great also, Crouch and Gerrard were poor.

Clay Davis Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 i didnt think Hyypia played that well tbh, looked a bit off the pace and a few of his raking passes went adrift.
Guest RedLegend Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I thought Finnan was excellent. Provided about three quality crosses that all led to chances. One of them being the goal. All the discomfort was coming from the other full-back position where Riise looked dodgy at times.
