Eiler99 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Did Stalteri make contact or did Kewell fall over his own legs? I couldn't quite make it out from where I was sitting (behind some tall bloke in the pub ). Stalteri didn't seem to kick up much of a fuss about it though.
Bootle Buck Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 The commentators didn't make much of it on TV but I couldn't really tell.
Scally Bob Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 It was one of those where they both got a bit tangled. Kewell's first touch wasn't great but it was a foul and as last man he had to go.
Andy Mac Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Looked like a harsh sending off to me. Was it straight red? It's one of those all or nothing decisions for the ref. Either the ref sees contact and he has to go or he doesn't and the game carries on.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 can't see Kewell taking a dive with only the ball & keeper between him & the goal
Foo Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I'd say Harry fell over a tad easy. In my opinion that was a pretty doubtful red card, but I was playing with the dog when it happened.
Paul B Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 can't see Kewell taking a dive with only the ball & keeper between him & the goal My thoughts exactly. Kewell was going so fast, even the slightest touch was going to bring him down.
ShaunOfTheRed Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Was hard to tell on the telly but if there was contact it was minimal......
Maldini Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 He clipped his left foot on the backlift, it was intentional and he had to go. He should have been booked a couple of times before that anyway when he tripped Kewell.
Spion kop Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 harry was through with half the sahara in front of him for space i doubt the wasn't contact.
aka Dus Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I really thought Harry could have stayed up. Replays didn't persuade me otherwise.
Hassony Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 harry was through with half the sahara in front of him for space i doubt the wasn't contact.and as maldini said, it was intentional, a professional foul and he had to go
Tones Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I really thought Harry could have stayed up. Replays didn't persuade me otherwise. Same here.
Eiler99 Posted January 14, 2006 Author Posted January 14, 2006 but I was playing with the dog when it happened. Prison slang?
£440,000 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I really thought Harry could have stayed up. Replays didn't persuade me otherwise. I agree. Harry seemed to go down once he was past Stalteri to me. If he'd stayed up it would've been some goal, created from nothing by Gerrard.
Stevie H Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I really thought Harry could have stayed up. Replays didn't persuade me otherwise. thought he took the tired option tbh.
mercury Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 (edited) There was contact and as the last man he had to go. Should Kewell stay up? There was half a pitch to run and Kewell is quick no more, so I don't really mind either way. The red card took the steam out of their sail. Edited January 14, 2006 by mercury
Gomez Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Haven't seen it yet, but it shouldn't matter if he goes down or not if he is fouled. It's just the sad reflection on referees that unless you make the most of it, the foul isn't given. Ideally, if a defender commits a professional foul yet the player manages to stay up and score the goal, the defender should still see red, as he still tried to cheat.
Big G Superhero Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I really thought Harry could have stayed up. Replays didn't persuade me otherwise. Haven't seen it on TV but that's the impression I got in the ground
Mike Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 straight red no question. case closed. however, the s**** pass from the hapless riise didn't help, the ball should have been 5 yards in front of him - not behind him.
Internationinteroperability Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Both Kewell and Momo fell a bit easily today imo. But who cares, we won
Guest Kev Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 At the time I expected a yellow card because; The foul happened closer to the half way line than the penalty area, there was a covering defender chasing back who was right behind Kewell. To dismiss a player the referee must be convinced that Kewell had a definate obvious goal scoring opportunity. I don't think it was myself.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 what's that now? 10? 12? red cards against our opponents this season?
Foo Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Prison slang? Yeah, I figured some perv might say something like that Well, no it is a dog, a rottweiler in fact.
