CarraLegend Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 http://sport.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jh...14/sfndud14.xml Jol said: "People say Liverpool had slipped in the past few years, but they were always in the top four or five. Tottenham were not, and yet now we are fourth in the table, so maybe we have done a better job than Liverpool." Regarding Agger, whom Liverpool have bought from Brondby to supplement the central defensive talents of Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia, Jol was also critical. "You can see they are in another bracket when they can pay six or seven million for a full-back like Daniel Agger. That is what he is, because he plays on the right side of defence. If they think he is a centre-back then I hope that's where they play him if he features against us."
Romario Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Must have spent xmas in an amsterdam coffee shop.
madskilz Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Jol does'nt half talk sh@te sometimes, he was on Sky Sports News the other day claiming Pedro Mendes was a world class player
CarraLegend Posted January 14, 2006 Author Posted January 14, 2006 Jol does'nt half talk sh@te sometimes, he was on Sky Sports News the other day claiming Pedro Mendes was a world class player Defo, he seems like a harmless enough bloke but it looks like he's beginning to settle into the "Spurs way" and just mumbling utter drivel.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 we spend 6 mil on a potentially fantastic player (read the Guardian's lowdown on it). Pompey spend 7.5mil on 3 Spurs rejects. It's hardly like we're hoying the cash around. We needed a CB, we got a CB. And for a fraction of the price the Glams paid for Stam about 8 years ago
Romario Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Defo, he seems like a harmless enough bloke but it looks like he's beginning to settle into the "Spurs way" and just mumbling utter drivel.Yeah I agree. He seemed quite a cool bloke at the beginning but he's in danger ofbelieving his own hype. Has no one told him spurs will probably go into freefall by the end of Jan like usual! (probably won't but I hope they do)
CarraLegend Posted January 14, 2006 Author Posted January 14, 2006 We needed a CB, we got a CB. And for a fraction of the price the Glams paid for Stam about 8 years ago I think we've been had mate, he's a right sided full back. Hope someone tells Rafa about it soon.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 feck - wharrabout Kronkamp then? Striker?
CarraLegend Posted January 14, 2006 Author Posted January 14, 2006 feck - wharrabout Kronkamp then? Striker? We'll have to wait until Martin Jol gives his next installment on the lowdown of our players mate. He could be another goalie.
liverbird04 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 you didn't see the rest of his comments then ,strange I thought "They go for a player like Djibril Cisse, I think he was 18 or 20 million pounds, but we do it in a different way. Most of our young ones have done well and we have three or four experienced players, so we look a stronger team. But we are still not 100%. "It's 100% different. If Liverpool buy players, they buy experienced ones. They try to fill positions. If the left side is not good enough they go out and buy, but we had to start all over again. We had 30 new players and cleared 15 of them out. "I want to play attractive football because it is my background as well. But I still like good organisation and that is what Chelsea and Liverpool are doing. They play very organised football.
Hoff Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Shows how much he knows cos Agger is left footed!
realtarragona Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Experienced players like Kromkamp, Agger, Carson, Alonso, Sissoko and even Crouch. Not to mention the likes of Barragan etc. He's chatting s****. And the comment about Agger being right side just embarrasses him.
liverbird04 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 (edited) he did go on to say "You have to win games and do it with the best players available. It is totally different here than at Chelsea as well because they buy regulars like Michael Essien. they bought him for £24.4million and he's got to play, when we bought Aaron Lennon he was 17 and I didn't even know he would play. Tom Huddlestone, Michael Dawson and Jermaine Jenas were the same." didn't tottenham pay 7 million for jenas ? Edited January 14, 2006 by liverbird04
Tones Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Weird comments. Definately smoking too much green bud.
Foo Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Tottenham have bought a lot of talent and some of them expensively assembled too. Like Leeds without yet going under and I'd be surprised if they went that way at all.
Spike Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Quote like Jol not least beacuse he was great in goldmember (for sure). Have always hated spurs but the job he's doing there kind of reminds me of the job Ged did to us in taking also rans into some kind of form
fyds Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Given his incredible tactical and transfer nouse, I wonder if we shouldn't make him an offer of about £3m for his out-of-form reserve centre half Jemain Defoe?

mercury Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Fair do everyone onto his own views. Read carefully though I am not sure whether he's criticising us or trying to explain Spurs's transfer policy but got careless (and foolish as shown by his comments) and drawn into talking about us.
madskilz Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I don't think he is openingly trying to criticise us, he is just being arrogant and trying to promote himself (as being more schrewed in the transfer market) and his club. But his comments about Agger are bizarre to say the least.
