Thanks for the contructive criticism :(

The design will change sligtly, it won't be red on red for starters and we may lose some of the drop shadowing for a cleaner look. For those who do have a real problem with the design all I can say is that there were plenty of other options:

http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=70354.0

and this was by far the most popular, even more than my effort.

We want to do more banners after this so if you hate this one all the more incentive to donate some cash to get it out of the way so you can put forward an alternative.

It looks far too much like an over-photoshopped design challenge off CGTalk for me. I much prefer simplicity in banner designs, and a very much 'less is more' approach.

But hey, I'm a minimalist at heart ;)

We received this email overnight.

We're getting close now to putting a finalised design into production.

Our target is to have the banner ready for the Benfica home leg on March

8th. Hopefully the Kop will then have a new banner to celebrate our

European success and the rebirth of LFC as a major European power. The

idea is to have this banner on the other side of the Kop to the existing

crest surfer.

We're still short on the budget however, hence this email. If possible

could you post a message on your forum letting people know about the

banner project? If you don't want to get involved or feel it's already

had sufficient exposure on your site no worries. We don't want to

hassle anyone and we know the banner may not be to everybodys tastes.

Finally, the idea behind this project is to gather like minded people to

help produce more banners in the future. The idea originated with some

slightly drunk members of the Rawk admin in Istanbul butwe don't want

this to be a rawk only affair. If the banner is a success we'll look to

getting as much support from across the online LFC communities for new

banners for all supporters. This may involve setting up a separate site

devoted solely to banners but I'm getting ahead of myself now. If you'd

be interested in this let me know and I'll keep you informed.

Any help you can offer will be sincerely appreciated. Feel free to take

any of the prose on the thread, pictures etc or if it's ok with you I

can post on your forum. I'm attaching a copy of the design, although

this is subject to slight changes and colours are yet to be finalised.

All feedback appreciated.

Best regards,

Matt Owen

If you feel you can donate towards this project, could you please follow this link.

The banner is attached to this thread.

Seems a lot of time and money to spend on something that's going to be obsolete 2 months later

:D

Ive just remembered exactly what it reminds me of...

Those air-brushed t-shirts you can get down Great Yarmouth beach, where they have a load of templates hanging up, and when you pick one, they airbrush it on a white t-sirt for you while you wait...

on the scarf... the ''L'' looks like it's been rotated 90 degrees clockwise...

+ the designs ok, but i think it'll look decent as a huge banner thingy

Oi! That's the design I stumped my cash up for. Don't go changing it now! =)

I've mocked up a 10' x 6' image of this to the lads at RAWK and it looks good. As stated the background colour will change and it will help, but I think it's a bold image. I know we're a traditionalist club at heart but this isn't a threat to this surely?

No mate, if its big enough it will look really good. I dont know why but it reminds me of the one Milan had at the final.

I just think it doesn't convey what LFC is all about, i.e. class, history, and just the general feeling that we are better then your average football fan. It looks like the kind of banner you'd see at Lazio in that it seems to push out an aggresive stance. The artwork is to be commended though.

I'd love to see something with Shanks, our 3 European Cup winning managers, a picture of the Cup and "Forever in our shadow" or someting like that.

Wasn't there a Mount Rushmore of our managers knocking about somewhere?

That would be boss.

There was/is a Rushmore image. I think there'll be a site set up soon to host all these images that'll give you an opportunity to purchase posters, mousemats, fridge magnets etc.. for these images.

For the arch traditionalists, remember that there is already an existing flag which celebrates the crest, managers and trophies in the time honoured fashion. This flag is supposed to complement it and offer something different, it's not intended as a replacement. Incidentally in size we're looking at around the same dimensions as the existing flag, budget permitting.

Can I advise those who really hate it read the two linked threads? You'll find plenty who feel the same and all the arguments for and against. This hasn't been planned on the back of a fag packet, the debate has been ongoing for months and, with respect, we're not looking to kick it off again. There will be plenty of opportunities in the future for all those so mortally offended by this flag to get off their a*** and help with the next one. If this is a success the idea is to get all forums involved in an ongoing Kop banner group.

The Mount Rushmore is (I think) by the same artist by the way. Cracking design but don't think it would work on this large scale. He's also done some rather nice T-shirts, both of the banner design and some new Socialist Realistesque Rafalution ones. I've got a banner one and it's top quality. Hope you don't mind if I give him a plug, he deserves it.

I think its great and will willingly forward a few quid towards the project. Anyone involved in this project should be commended for their excellent work. Fair play lads and im sure it will look as good as it does on my background ;)

Indeed Kev, it's easy to be critical but if you look at the detail that went into this thing, it's amazing. I work in the graphic arts industry and any of the professionals in our place that have seen it are astounded at it's detail. For someone to call it 'photoshoppy' is a bit rich.

same here, alot of the guys here would be proud to knock out something like that.... My only comment would be the position of the flame... seems a little unbalanced... maybe if it had one on both sides of the Liver Bird.

Powerful Image, and I like the space left available for the 6th trophy :D

You find the negative comments upsetting  Should we only comment if they are good comments?

The thread was looking for people to contribute money. I pointed out the reasons why I would not contribute money because I didn't think the banner was good. I have even given a suggestion of what I think would look good. I thought forums were for discussing? Maybe it should have been pointed out that the thread was only for people who thought the picture was good and wanted to contribute.

Let us all not forget that this is primarily a RAWK project, and is down to Armin, Rushian etc (Apologies if I've left someone out).

A hell of a lot of work has gone into this from design onwards, and even contacting the club.

They've come to us, like we would to them for some assistance.

Some of the negative comments on here I find upsetting.

Should say that the prime mover, as Mr Mindwarp might put it, has been Gareth on Rawk. It's from his hungover brain that the thought first sprang as well. Rushian has done feck all :bleh:

Also, although this one has originated on Rawk we don't want it to be a Rawk only thing. The main point is that everyone involved, from those who have contributed designs to the people who will make the flag are fellow Liverpool supporters and volunteers. Although the people making it want paying

Anyway to an extent I agree with Johnny, if you put your head above the parapent it's likely to be the subject of sniping. Even more so if you do something new. It would have been far easier to do the traditional Red banner with Gold stars, and many would've liked it better. What I do like about this one is that we're trying something new. It owes a certain amount to the European tradition of banners but I've not seen any worldwide which is quite like this one.

No, but some of the comments have gone OTT, and I felt that they could have been toned down.

Upsetting? fecking hell. For someone who puts so much store in being allowed to express his own opinion, no matter how offensive, that's quite ridiculous.

I think this design looks like something done by someone who's spent too much time playing Dungeons and Dragons, but hey, not my money and time has gone into it. Well done to those who get off their backsides and sort this kind of thing out, but I don't like the design. That's all.
