Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has bemoaned the problems with trying to conduct transfer business in January's transfer window.

link

The Spanish coach has been speaking to the press in his homeland as he looks to introduce a centre back and wide midfielder to his squad.

The UEFA Champions League holders are finding it difficult to sign the right players despite earmarking a host of targets from across the globe.

Only full back Jan Kromkamp and reserve team winger Paul Anderson have arrived this month but Benitez is still scouring the market for reinforcements.

"It is always difficult and more so in January," he protested to La Voz de la Galicia.

"The good players are at the great clubs and the contracts are very complicated.

"Sincerely, it is only possible to search for players of smaller clubs."

Benitez is always likely to fall back to the league he knows best for new talent, which is probably why so many players from La Liga are continually linked with moves to Anfield.

However, the list of potential targets seems to grow almost daily as the manager ponders his options.

perhaps referring at the difficulties of signing simao?

Or the difficulties of signing anyone. The market has really been f***ed around by the chavs.

In what ways are the potential signings of Agger and Simao affected by Chelsea? They didnt stop us getting Alonso, Garcia, Reina and Morientes for example.

If by trouble you mean not being held ransom for a transfer fee higher than the value the Club puts on a player I would agree. It's only been 10 days, have some patience. It's not like there have been a plethora of signings as of yet. There is still plenty of time to conclude a deal and it's my bet that clubs are just posturing at the moment trying to get the best fee for their players.

Yes, but one has to ask why.

Why are we having so much f**king trouble getting the players we want, is it because the clubs are taking the p*ss ...and keep holding us to ransom ?, or is it because the players involved are stalling, hoping for a bigger (i know, makes ya f**king laugh eh) ....club to come in for them ?, or ......is it perhaps because Rafa is crap in the transfer market ? ......i dunno, maybe its something else i'm too f**king p*ssed off to think of ?.

I am not saying that all transfers are affected by chelsea, rather that the marketplace itself has been affected. Chairmen seem to believe that the big clubs will cough up the cash if they put the squeeze on them. In the cases of Agger and Simao the both chairmen seem to be playing silly buggers by upping the price after receiving initial offers. I agree with our approach to scenarios like this, but its incredibly frustating.

Hasn't it been like that for a while though? If a club have a valuable asset which someone else wants to purcharse they'll try and squeeze out every penny possible and the buyer can either sit it out tight and keep negotiating like we're (seemingly) doing or pay over the odds.

La Voz de la Galicia strange that they should be interviewing as they are a regional paper, based in La Coruña..... :hmm: In the full article Rafa also states that in relation to CB's "he had some ideas in the summer and that he is looking down that line again", meaning the summer targets are still targets....also that we are considering 4-5 options, again in relation to the CB position..

So its one from Coloccini/César, does this mean the Agger deal has hit a snag or is he simply covering all the bases or are we signing 2 CB. Questions, questions, questions...

Or he is talking to Celta Vigo, which is just down the raod, about David Silva a cracking little winger

There was a lot of money being spent by the likes of Madrid, Inter & the Mancs circa 00 and the market reacted similarly. Things seemed to be calming back down with clubs facing administration and world seeing what taking a risk can lead to at elland road. Roman entered the scene and the chavs paid what clubs were asking and then some.

Absolutely, thats what the transfer market is about. Yet clubs like Benfica and to a lesser extent brondy should realistically know what Simao or Agger are worth. The thing is, they do and they look for x million more because they think we will cough up.

Yes but the mancs wanted any player who could tackle a bit, and so will walk straight into the first team. We want squad players, basically, which makes our position weaker.

You think we'd spend £10mill on Simao as a squad player, some how I doubt it. I'd imagine Agger would get a load of games as well.

Its the reason Vidic turned us down, we wouldn't guarantee him a first team place.

He wouldn't have cost us £10m thought...

Cost the mancs 7 million, which isn't that far off?

Anyhow, the mancs got in two defenders, which is what was being referred to - they still haven't found a midfielder, so it isn't all easy going for the mancs versus crap for us

We bid £4.3mill for him. He would of been in the 1st team next year most probably depending how he'd settled. Same with Agger.
