eljay Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Just been watching the story of the Munich air crash. Whatever our loyalties, surely we couldn't fail to be moved by the tragedy and utter waste. Respect.
Ostrich Man Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 cried like a baby. though i suspect i can guess who was cackling throughout.....
Guz Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Damn missed it, any idea if it'll be repeated at all?
John Barnes Testicles Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 (edited) Damn missed it, any idea if it'll be repeated at all? no - it was in 1958. RIP the Munich lads. Edited January 10, 2006 by John Barnes Testicles
Ostrich Man Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 no - it was in 1954. four years out lad...
John Barnes Testicles Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 it's ok - I've caught up now! typo... honest!
Gunga Din Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 very sad, what a team they could have been, Sir Matt, to take what was left of that disaster and mold a European Cup winning team took some doing. a legendary and classy man. the fella who sits behind me on the Kop actually remembers Busby playing for us. reckons he was a decent player too. him and Paisley, two of the greatest managers of all time playing in the same side.
Ostrich Man Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 to paraphrase shankly and then along came the busby babes, to build a team like that, that was the genius of the man.
Jonesy Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 cried like a baby. though i suspect i can guess who was cackling throughout..... Not I son....not my style. I have visted his graveside on more than one occasion.
Ostrich Man Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 thought youd be too busy with the sandy melon lad to watch it.....
Jonesy Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 thought youd be too busy with the sandy melon lad to watch it..... thats no way to talk about your wife! And yes I was. She said she didn't have to fake it with me either.
Guest Apocolypse-Jim Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Just been watching the story of the Munich air crash. Whatever our loyalties, surely we couldn't fail to be moved by the tragedy and utter waste. Respect. 100% with you on this one, after all, it wasn't just a massive loss for Manchester United, it was a terrible loss for all the countries involved that had representative international players in the squad ....not least England.
The Hitman Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 very sad, what a team they could have been, Sir Matt, to take what was left of that disaster and mold a European Cup winning team took some doing. a legendary and classy man. the fella who sits behind me on the Kop actually remembers Busby playing for us. reckons he was a decent player too. him and Paisley, two of the greatest managers of all time playing in the same side.Yes indeed,Busby was quite a manager, and quite a man.Somebody who was completely in tune with the Liverpool way throughout, utter class, even though he managed those.R.I.P
Stevie H Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 be interesting to see how the manchester derby goes off this weekend, with city having reminded their fans that one of their heroes, frank swift, died in the tragedy. hope that city fans will behave themselves, but as ever there'll probably be a t***tish minority that won't.
Ostrich Man Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 i feel a viewing of Busby, Shankly and Stein - the Football Men coming up again soon......best football Documentary ever!!
Murphman Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I know it's impossible to say but there's aview held by many who saw him that if it weren't for Munich 1958 Duncan Edwards would have lifted the World Cup and not Bobby Moore. He was hell of a player.
Ostrich Man Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 coyler disagrees....... or is it maldini.... well someone who says you cant trust older players and managers viewpoints anyway.
Guest Noodles Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Damn missed it, any idea if it'll be repeated at all? I missed it but just realised i have the teleport replay thing with telewest so will watch it later. If you`ve got it it`s free just type in a 4 digit code,if you haven`t maybe someone could tape it for you who has this facility.
anny road Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 i watched it too.... You wouldnt have got me on that plane a thrid time A couple of things 1. The Mrs Lukic....The one with the baby...Was that John Lukic then...I always thought that was an urban myth that he was on thet plane....the ages fit like... 2. My old man who watched that team a few times says that whist Edwards was a beast of a man, and a great player his faves were Eddie Coleman and Tommy Taylor....The latter is one of the best he has ever seen answered my own question apprantly not http://www.arseweb.com/other/faaq.html
Murphman Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 During my 'oft mentioned' day on the piss/golf day with Big Jack Charlton he told me. How Bobby was absolutely shiit scared of flying (unsurprisinglY) after that and how he would sit there white as a sheet until they landed, he never got over it apparently, not in his playing days anyway. Jack got married 3 weeks before Munich and there were a number of Munich victims (and survivors) in his wedding album including Tommy Taylor and Dennis Violet who jack concurred where fantstic players. He also gave me the full glare when I suggested Alan Hansen may have been in the same class as Bobby Moore.
wacko Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 http://www.arseweb.com/other/faaq.htmlFrom that site, a list of celebrity Arsenal fans:Jan Molby"Arsenal were, and still are, my team. I am an Arsenal fan and have been since I was a child in Denmark.... I loved Liam Brady... he was a genius." (Total Football magazine June 1999)
Guest Noodles Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Just watched it...very moving. The bit were Jimmy Murphy the welsh assistant coach goes in the room thinking the rest had been moved to another hospital, only to find out thats all survived got me.I hope the k.heads at games that sing that sick song watched this,it might make them think twice now. What Matt Busby must of felt years on when he heard that at grounds saddens me.A great team,a sad waste.
Coyler Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 coyler disagrees.......Not me, anyway. I was the one with the friend-across-the-road's Grandad who used to work near Manchester and used to well up whenever he mentioned him etc. etc. I personally have only seen that black-and-white clip of him smiling and laughing for the cameras in training and then walloping a ball. Looked magical?
