I hope for him he goes to Hearts. He can't stay in our reserves for his whole career.

I can't think of anyone in our first team we would drop to let him play, tbh.. I am sure Neil sees it that way too.

just hasnt got what it takes to play for us at the highest level. there is a gulf in class between ressie football and the top of the premiership, and Mellor is falling between two stools, not good enough for the firsts, too good for the reserves.

yep, eggsacerley.

I hope he goes there, and does well for 'em, as I'm sure he would

He's 23 now, no longer a kid biding his time in the ressies. He's at the stage of his career where he needs to move on somewhere where he can get regular first team games.

I'll be sorry to see him go.

As I've said before, would have loved to see him get a few games when he's 100 % again. The lad has the right attitude, and he certainly knows how to score goals. I'll never forget his goal against a****** , how he dragged Cambell with him on his diagonal run so Xabi could score, and how he set up Steve G for THAT goal against Olympiacos.

All the best to him if he leaves.

Of course I'll get slagged for mentioning it, but he didn't set the world on fire when he was at West Ham - did he have injury problems there or did he get a run of games? Contrary to popular belief, I don't watch West Ham so I wouldn't know. :P

I feel the same as you. However he's 23 now and not even a regular sub, if he doesn't move this month then unless he gets 10+ starts in a red shirt I can see him deffo going in the summer.

I'll be sorry to see him go, and will always remember the Olympiacos game and the Arsenal goal.

Two great memories from last season. Definately two goals that most LFC supporters will remember forever. So even if he leaves he did make an impact here. Sort of.

there's no point in our holding onto him until the summer, helps neither us nor him. hope he gets the move and gets on with his career.

From LFCs point of view I can't see much wrong with hanging on to him until the summer (I don't think he's on astronomical wages). His point of view might be different...

He'll be a big hit up there I reckon. Good luck to him.

Yep, the scottish league is about the same level as premiership reserve footy, he should score loads

Personally speaking, Neil Mellor will always be remembered for that fabulous strike against Arsenal last season, and although he's got ability and is natural goal scorer, I don't ever see him getting regular first team football. I really hope the lad does what's best for him, because he has always shown our club loyalty and scored some very important goals along the way. I wish Neil all the best, and I wouldn't be opposed to him staying if all he desired was to be a squad player. Judging from the genral tone of this thread, plenty of forumites have got respect for him, and it must be good for Mellor to know that his contribution has been well received by LFC fans. Whatever decision he makes will be respected, one way or the other.

No "sort of" IMO. I don't believe he is good enough for us in the long-run but there is no denying he has a place in the record books and our memories.

He didn't get a run of games - spent more time in their reserves than the first team after Roeder got the boot

Edit: I seem to have quoted the wrong post there :hmm:

Should be a good move for him, depending on how many dodgy loan players Romanov brings in. I think he'll do well in Scotland where pace isn't always as important for a striker as it is in the Prem.

Pity Rix is in charge of Hearts really, they were looking a tidy team before he took over and they converted to mainly kicking people up in the air.

Oh, and has a fee been mentioned? I wouldn't trust Romanov when it comes to money...
