Leroy Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Everytime I see the Carson penalty, hear or read about it, there all saying he should of been sent off. I did`nt see anything wrong in it how was that a pen? Sorry if this is a Ramario, just winding me up
Leroy Posted January 8, 2006 Author Posted January 8, 2006 yes - the capslock button1144772 Oops sorry the 2 of us wound up now
Gerrardrules Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 It wasnt a penalty. The Luton player himself stepped on Carson's foot.

So I can see why people should think Carson should have walked. That was my first reaction - however, benefit of replayes etc (which the ref did not have) showed him standing on Carson and then falling over. You could argue he dived. The ref bottled it having not sent off the Luton player under similar circumstances a few mins earlier
madaboutlfc Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 by the same token Luton defender should have been sent off as well..
Ian Mc Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I reckon from where the ref was it probably looked a certain penalty, especially with him being clean through on goal. Hindsight is a remarkable thing though It wasn't a penalty.

Referees tend to be a lot more lenient in the FA and Carling Cups than in Premiership games. I'm sure Carson would have been sent off if that was a Prem match. Posts merged:by the same token Luton defender should have been sent off as well..1144807 I don't agree with that. If Gerrard was about to score then yes, he should have been sent off but the ball had gone passed Gerrard as he was fouled. Gerrard had no chance of getting the ball so it wasn't an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 to be fair to the ref, it took about 3 replays to see that he stood on Carson's foot, rather than Carson intentionally bringing him down, which is how it initially looked. Not to send him off on the basis that it looked like he had fouled him, is inexplicable

That was the only view available that showed it wasn't a penalty.
