The above has been trotted out many a time, and perhaps it is true.

However there is one thing we have gotten from that amazing night in Istanbul that is possibly more important than any of the above.

An aura.

Even though we were 3-1 down and Luton were the better side at the team we were never beaten. Look in the other threads from the Everton, Spurs and Manc forums. Every one of them mentions Istanbul - even before the comeback started.

Listen to the commentary from whatever source, read the papers - the spirit of Istanbul is never far away.

And lastly there is the belief. In the fans, in the team, and in the backroom staff that we can turn things around.

No matter what the score is this season other teams will be nervous and thinknig we could pull this back. Think back a few years to when we alwasy feared that we'd throw things away. The fans become nervous, which rubs off on the players. The player start getting nervous so do things they wouldn;t normally do. The pressure felt as if it was on us - even though we were winning.

Now it's the complete opposite. Everyone else fears that we're going tp pull it back, and that belief we have - couple with the opposition's nervousness is priceless is pulling victories out of the hat that perhaps we'd have lost in recent years.

I can't help but shake this feeling something very special is around the corner (sadly I felt the same under Houllier, so I'm no David Hodgson), and a huge factor in it is the mentality we have.

If we're 2 or 3 down, all we need is a goal and the opposition, the media, and everyone else think "here we go again".

That mental edge is worth something way more than a few more quid in the bank balance, and a so called 'big name player'.

Thank God for Rafa!!

Yes. Matty, Ben and Paul were there clear as a bell.

Which YPC w***** was feeling like s**** so didn't go the game? Having been feeling more and more run down throughout the week, he dragged his a*** out for a few bevvies on Firday night only to find he couldn't move on Saturday morning and felt like death warmed up.

He's slept for about 25 of the last 30 hours, waking only to watch the match on tele!!

Yes it was me.

Yes I'm gutted.

Yes I feel a damn sight better now.

Interesting perspective and a very valid one, if at times, rather understated. It takes something rather monumental for one to gain such a standing; a begrudging, for some, respect, however well earned it might have been.

It is becoming something akin to an automatic handicap whenever we step onto the pitch with the opposition always very wary no matter how substantial a lead they might have worked so hard to build upon and something that our players must continue to embody in their every fight thereafter. Fact is, in recent times, it is not dissimilar to what the Mancs have had under Whiskeynose, and the very reason why many a team have crumbled when taken to the fight, losing their advantage not through ability but sheer winning mentality.
