that was not a penalty for them. If you look clearly, Luton player fell after stepping on the foot of Carson.

But then with split second decision, most would favour a penalty.

I saw him have one great game last season but in every game since he's made serious errors.

I'd pretty much agree with that - though he's still better than the rest on the whole.

It was also outside the area

don't blame him for giving either penalty as they both looked it from the first 'real time' view.

To not send off the Luton defender & Carson however was ridiculous.

If you want to see examples of "the last man" or "denying a clear goalscoring opportunity"..........

yeah, surprised at him. he's normally a pretty consistent ref.

He was consistent though wasn't he, if he'd sent one of them off then fair enough but the punishment dealt out on top of the penalty was enough.

they both should have walked. but i think that having given luton the sympathy vote for the foul on gerrard, he couldn't then send carson off. he got the first wrong so in a way had to get the second one wrong by default.

He booked Momo for his first challenge. It wasn't a good tackle, but a talking to would have sufficed. HOW he didn't produce 2 red cards - for either pen - I'll never know.

I thought it was wrong that he was refereeing that game when he reffed us 5 days previous. The booking for Sissoko iseemed a hangover from the Bolton game.

On the whole he did okay, let the game flow, their pen looked a pen on first view so no complaints there and the yellow was spot on as Carra was about clear the ball. No card for the Luton defender i thought was right as well, the ball had gone past Gerrard so it was no longer a goalscoring opportunity, although it was a definite foul.

I'll be surprised if the FA don't have a question or two about the absence of red-cards. Although the Carson replay may work in his favour, but if he saw it as a fould and a pen, it had to be a red card. I couldn't believe it when he went yellow

How was the foul on Gerrard not a penalty?

If the argument was that Gerrard wouldn't have reached the ball, therefore is was not a "goalscoring chance denied" then he may have a case about not giving a red card, but surely it was a foul? (must admit I haven't watched a replay since last night).

Because Carson was going for the ball and didn't get it. It was a foul...not a clear cut one and that's why opinion is split.

So called "expert" pundits have a lot to answer for. There is no such concept that the "last man" has to walk. It's something that has been made up by these imbeciles who can't be bothered to read the laws of the game. Most still think we play under the same laws as 20 years ago.

The first penalty was a foul and in the box so a definite penalty but if anyone thinks Gerrard is so good that he would have had a chance of scoring had he not been fouled then you need to visit specsavers.

On first seeing it, the second incident looked like Carson had brought down their forward in the area and again a definite penalty. Only if the Ref had been standing right next to the incident would he have seen the true version. Again though, in instances like this the Ref has to decide if the fouled player would definitely have had a chance to score and again this is not 100% definite as Carragher was favourite to reach the ball first so no red card.

I think more refs should come out after the game and explain their decisions and also put a few so called "experts" in their place by explaining the CURRENT laws of the game that everyone plays under today, not the laws the "experts" played under 20 years ago.

When I watchedthe replay on Saturday, the Luton guy was already halfway to chewing the grass at the point at which he stepped on Carson's foot.

The diving tw*t.

Absolutely right. :applause:

I agree. He certainly went down VERY easily.

I agree, but that's a artifact of poor refereeing. A foul is a foul whether you go down or not, but you will never get the foul unless you do.

A bit like that pen in the celtic match yesterday, he had a right handful of his shirt and was pulling him back, that is a foul, yet it should not have been enough to knock someone over. The striker decided to go down for the pen, and he got it.

I agree with all that
