To Luton, for an inspired, confident performance

To Rafa Benitez for one of his half-time specials

To all the lads for pulling it out of the bag yet again

To Sinama-Pongolle, i love you...you are awesome...you have to stay.

But will you please show your appreciation for Xabi Alonso for one of the finest 45 minutes of football you're likely to see

I thought so too.

Unfortunately the paper I picked up when we went round to my bird's sisters for Sunday dinner didn't.

They actually gave him a 5 for his performance - how do these journos manage to keep their jobs?

Saw that alright, they gave Crouch and Sami a 6 too which makes it even more mind boggling considering they both gave their worst performances of the season.

I bet this guy appreciates him:

LONDON, Jan 9 (Reuters) - A Liverpool fan has won 25,000 pounds ($43,880) after betting that midfielder Xabi Alonso would score from his own half this season, British media reported on Monday.

Alonso managed the feat from about 60 metres with Liverpool's fifth goal in a thrilling 5-3 FA Cup third round win at second division Luton Town on Saturday after the hosts' keeper had gone up for a stoppage-time corner. Fan Adrian Hayward, 42, had placed his 200 pound bet at 125-1 after noticing the Spaniard had tried several times last season to score from the Liverpool half.

"Since placing the bet, I've always had a vision in my mind that it would come when the opposing keeper came out for a corner in a cup game," Hayward was quoted as telling the Daily Mail.

"I couldn't believe it when Luton got a corner and the keeper started to run upfield....I thought I was going to pass out. When it went in, I went crazy."

The Mirror gave Crouch a 7 and Cisse (who at the very least passed for Gerrard to score) a 5.

Crouch stank on Saturday.

At the very least, Crouch put Kewell through for the Gerrard pen.

Neither of them were great, but they both improved in the second.

I think the slower type of game suits Crouch, the other night he looked like he was seriously out-muscled.

I was watching goals on Sunday on Sky a few weeks back. It was the days after Mourinho had slated Joe Cole and said that if he gave one more performance for himself and not the team that he would sell him. Chris Kamara said that at Sky they get the first editions of the Sunday papers (i.e. on the Saturday evening) and that the majority of the papers had given Cole 8/10, but that when he saw the later editions and after Mourinhos comments, that the same papers now had Cole as 4 ? 5 out of 10. These people have no minds of their own and are just sheep to popular opinion.
