Batistuta what a player he was.

deffo... i thought his goal tally would've been much higher.

I think Eto & Adriano will end up close to Ronaldo by the time they wind up their careers.

I remember when Arsenal played Fiorentins at Wembley in the Champions League, and despite Batistuta being injured, he slammed one into the top corner from 20 yards out.

Hell of a player.

Played his best football for Fiorentina, he was past his best when he left.

True, but that still didn't stop them paying $30mill dollars(I heard it was £23million squid) for him back in 2000/2001

Anyways, still a legend who shares my b'day! :)

Robert Bernard Fowler 343 League games 154 Goals  International 26 games(12 as sub)  7 goals

Not bad at all.

Well not as good as Owen, but the important thing is those 154 goals were more natural.

Not a chance, even if they score a goal a game for the next 100 games they still won't get close.

Ronaldo is a freak of nature.

:hmm:

We'll see what Owen's on after 343 games.  ;)

1144252[/snapback]

He's got 91 games to score 24 goals - most likely, he'll make it.

Although most of those goals won't be natural finishes so they won't count.

That he did,but the team around him wasn't as good as Roma's.Always on the fringes, they were good, but nothing special.

He made that team.

Batistuta was past his best from his second season onwards for Roma, yes.

But in his first he practically won them the title single-handedly! He must have been about 32 when they paid over £20m for him which seems like lunacy, but I suppose by winning them that title he kind of paid for himself, even if he did fade away after that.

I remember them being behind 2-1 in a crucial title game that season and he scored a hat-trick in the last 15 minutes, 2 of which were belted in the top corner from outside the box.

Incredible striker in his day - used to score from everywhere.

He scored a cracker of a goal against ireland at landsdowne road a few years back. Was crowded out but knew he had enough time to let the ball cross his body before cooly slotting it home. Possibly the only away goal I've clapped against us.

Ronaldo is a freak of nature.

Adriano turns 24 in Feb & Eto turns 25 in March... but I suppose your right. I can't see anyone hitting Ronaldo's figures or even coming close to it.

Adriano's figures are actually 167 league games and 79 goals. those stats don't include this season.

His Inter record alone is 99 games (in all comps) and 56 goals.

They might score more in total, but Ronaldo missed the best part of three years through injury. They won't get anywhere near his goals per games ratio.

Goals per game: ( league only)

Ronaldo - 0.77

Van Nistlerooy - 0.58

Vieri - 0.56

Shevchenko - 0.56

Batistuta - 0.54

Trezeguet - 0.53

Owen - 0.51

Crespo - 0.50

Andy cole - 0.48

Shearer - 0.46

Raul - 0.45

Henry - 0.45

Del Piero - 0.39

Eto'o - 0.45

Adriano - 0.45

Ronaldo is on another planet compared to the rest,

but for Batistuta to be on 0.54 goals per game after almost 400 games is just unbelievable.

In terms of goalscoring, I think these stats prove Ronnie is simply head and shoulders above the rest. IMO though, although he has kept on scoring he has still never quite been the player he was at Barcelona. That season he was the finest footballer I think I've ever seen along with Maradona - I used to make sure I watched La Liga every time they were on just to see him play. Then, he scored from everywhere. He'd beat 3 or 4 players before scoring seemingly every time, it was sheer football genius.

One player though whom I think is shown in a very good light by those stats is Shevchenko. You read through the list and apart from Henry and Del Piero, both of whom are down near the bottom, he does far more in other areas of the pitch for the team. He has actually played fairly deep a lot of the time at Milan, with Inzaghi (the Italian Andy Cole IMO) being the poacher.

Most of that list are out and out goalscorers, so for Sheva to rank equal third is mighty impressive. What a player - and even moreso after Istanbul but for different reasons!

He's always had a good record against you, but I think that post has just about guaranteed his name being on the scoresheet come Saturday...
