David Wilson, of Leigh, wrote that Green should ?provide an objective and unbiased service to the listener rather than warped opinions?

Alan Green "Bolton play ugly football"

WTF is the problem?

Apparently not, but there are unconfirmed rumours that Kevin Nolan has received 'six of the best' from arl' Fat-Head with his mobile ear-piece for not towing the pie-line.

just i thought allardyce had gone too far, he went and redeemed himself. anyone who can effect green's removal from the bbc should be knighted and/or canonised.

i don't mind opinionated broadcasting if there's a modicum of respect for other people's views... oh, and also the opportunity for differences of opinion to be aired without interruption.

while big sam is the ultimate media whore and could do with a break from our screens green's whining made listening to the match on fivelive the other day very difficult

I was thinking the same. His bias towards us is increasingly ridiculous. He's turning into another Clive Tyldesley (sp?) - albeit one on the right side.

What is the problem with Green having an opinion? What he has to do is to describe what is happening in the match over the radio so that we can imagine it as best we can. In this case, Bolton were playing ugly football anyway, so Fat Sam can't really complain

see i like him because he has an opinion. on 606 for example, he's perfectly accepting of other people's views, so long as they're not talking complete bolllocks. know what you mean about interrupting, but i find he only really does that if there's something urgent happening in a match, or as before, if someone on 606 is talking s****.

6-0-6 followed his match commentary, Bolton fans were invited to phone in.

There were Bolton fans at half-time giving him grief cos their mates at home phoned them up and said Green had said they were rubbish - which he never said.

What is the problem? Bolton do play ugly football - last season, they along with Everton came to Anfield and kicked lumps out of us - feck 'em.

If any commentator lets that 'style' of football pass without comment - he isn't doing his job properly - especially if he's a radio broadcaster.

i cringe when he has jimmy armfield as his co-commentator. i've lost count of the times green contradicts him or cuts him off to reiterate his own opinion. armfield is too much of a gent to pull him up on it. note, green never dares to try that with the likes of terry butcher.

the other thing that annoys me is that green is never happy unless he's indignant - the more trivial the issue, the better - i'd sooner he stuck to the match, or at least some relevant background info, rather than bemoaning the time it took to get his car parked, or the lack of heated toilet seats in the press section of whatever ground he's at.

top grade tosspot, imo.

Exactly. I once heard him tell some fella to turn it in slagging his team off for their performance that day when he discovered the fella hadn't been to the match. Spot on.

Contrast that to the BBC Merseyside phone-ins "Well, I wasn't at the game today, John, but Smicer was awful..."

The problem with this "everyone has an opinion" s**** is too many people are complicit in the agreement that just because "everyone" has an opinion each are as valid as another. b******s. To use this site as an example I'd rather hear what Big Wayne has to say about the game than some mouthy nobhead who hasn't gone and doesn't know what happened but has a keyboard and an urge to type.

The 'Balmy Night in Barcelona' bollucks aside Tyldesley is actually a very good observer of the game and has never been anything but full of praise and for us, our history and our achievements.

I like his elaborate style of commentary, especially....

"And the first goal of the semi-final is a Liverpool goal"

Nature of radio commentary that Herbie, and besides Armfield isn't exactly the fastest at responding to a leading question is he ? You'd almost think he was trying to think of how to respond in Japanese sometimes.

Green has managed to upset and fall out with a remarkable number of the game?s leading personalities over the years. Allardyce has been added to a list that already includes Sir Alex Ferguson, Roy Keane, David Moyes and Joe Royle.

Thats an impressive list and i take my hat off to Green. AN excellant list of people who dislike you, if i had half of those people disliking me i would be a happy man

I think that Green does a very good job and his 'opinions' make for far for interesting listening than the mundane ramblings of other commentators and phone-in chairs. He's a big Liverpool fan too and has a season ticket so another red high up the media ladder has its benefits

I think you've hit the nail on the head there about the permanent indignancy.

It's not something which is exclusive to Alan Green, of course, but it's worn very thin indeed by now.

He opened 606 this weekend with ".... and Bolton fans, do you really enjoy watching that football?..."

So they had their chance to vent..

he's right though. they're f***ing appalling to watch.

Absolutely. If there is a worse commentary combination on the radio than Alan Green and Mark Lawrenson I've yet to hear them. Green is an egomanic - give me Mike Ingham of John Murray any day of the week. Especially match day.

1142140[/snapback]

amen, antm.

green loves the sound of his own whiny, whingeing voice. he's only happy when there's something to complain about and he believes he knows more about the game than experienced (ex)professionals. rudest man on radio.

Would carry more weight if not for the fact that lots of ex-professionals (working in the media) know f*** all about the game (and especially what goes on around it) or can't string a decent sentence together to pass their knowledge on.
