Lou Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Just wondering, what memories do you have of the FA Cup 3rd round involving the mighty reds ?1139703Not my first memory but.....there was an FA Cup tie against Grimsby when The Kop came up with their fishy chants (Kenny Dogfish etc). Not sure when it was but it could have been the 3rd round tie in 1980.
muleskinner Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 My first FA Cup game going without me Dad was the 4-1 against Altrincham in 1981. Think Kenny scored 2.

Will Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Just discovered that the first FA Cup game I ever went to was a goalless draw between Southend United and Walsall in 1987 at Roots Hall. However, that was a First Round tie... Shockingly, the first ever Third Round match I ever went to was our 3-0 defeat of Brum just four years ago. Always had a thing about Cup games it seems...
Lee W Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 We've never played Brighton in the 3rd round, have we ?
Jim Price Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 First ever FA Cup game was home to Brighton. Lost 2-1. If my memory serves Jimmy Case scored a cracker for them, might even have been the winner.
Guest Kev Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 After 27 years, certain things are a blur. I can clearly remember being petrified of being arrested by this idiot copper. They threw a bunch of us out, walked away and we went back in through another gate. If I remember correctly, there was no dining car on the train either on the way home.1140749 There was a cage serving cold meat pies and cans of coke going down there, but nothing coming home. When we arrived at the ground, Southend fans all started jeering so they got pelted by snow balls. The pitch was covered in snow, and someone threw a flare onto the pitch and it looked like an animal had been killed with all the red snow. The train home had no heating, so I remember sleeping on the luggage rack for most of the journey. All that for a 0-0 draw.
Gunga Din Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 my first ever memory of being annoyed about a result was the 2-1 defeat against Brighton in 83, the one Jimmy Case scocred in. i hadnt yet turned 6, and the reason i remember it was it was the day my little brother got Christened, and i refused to go because we lost. have had a dislike for Brighton ever since. infact looking back, its the first game i vividly remember watching on tv. i have vague memories of Norn Iron beating Spain in 82
Hightown Phil Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Remember being pushed of a wall at City by a steward when Murphy scored that penalty the other year.
Nebraska Red Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 1-0 Burnley last year. 1140818 whippersnapper!!!
Gunga Din Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 1-0 Burnley last year. 1140818 remember the first trip. just parking up outside the ground, about to get out of the car and the game was fecking postponed
Nebraska Red Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 went through LFCHistory to jog my memory. another epic journey was the voyage to Swansea in 82, went by coach that game and it seemed to take about 3 days to get home. it was a horrible day and everybody was soaked on the coach going back. the year we played Doncaster (74) we got some horrid away games. Carlisle and Ipswich were a bugger to get to. we deserved to win it that year based on the travelling. I did every game except the final as I could not get the right voucher for a ticket. no loyalty cards back then.

You didn't have a pint in the Swansea Jack did you ?1140892 i was 14 years old, i was lucky to scrape together ticket money and train/coach fare. i always took sarnies and something to drink for both legs of the trip. besides, you had to be 18 to buy beer. The coppers had put fences around where the coaches parked and said they would only protect us if we stayed behind the fences. As there were no pubs within our little 'prison' we asked a local where the nearest boozer was. They said The Swansea Jack, but we didn't want to go in there. So five minutes later we were at the bar It got scary when the pub emptied and they legged it after a Liverpool coach that had got lost. But seens as we had put a few bob on the pool table we carried on drinking. Never got touched or threatened once whilst we were in there

Even though we produced match tickets they wouldn't let us passed the road block. We ended up going to watch Burton Albion rather than come home.

Nebraska Red Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 ahh, the happy days of the miner's strikes. just makes you want to wish evil things on Maggie and Scargill all over again.

Evocative, iconic - isn't it ? Brighton became a bit of a bogey side for us in the 80's - I used to get some funny looks as a kid standing on my 4ft stool at the Goldstone with a Liverpool scarf and hat on. Can't for the life of me remember who got the winner for Brighton that day, but if my memory serves me right it was scored at the Anny Road end, from a cross on the left-side ?? That year was also the year Brighton reached the Final against the Mancs and feckin' Gordon Smith missed that sitter in the last minute. Dozy twot Brighton got stuffed 4-0 in the replay, then went and knocked us out again next year and I think Michael Robinson was bought by us based on those performances.
