I think he would be very good as a holding midfielder.

 

his lack of concentration wouldn't be as much of a problem is in defence, and he has the physical attributes and reading of the game to do well there as well as the technical qualities to contribute forwards.

 

then again, he also has the qualities to be a top class centreback when he can be bothered...
