Swan Red Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Here RAFAEL BENÍTEZ, the Liverpool manager, has been counting down the days until the transfer window opens on Sunday, but Rick Parry, the chief executive, has conceded that the chances of signing Simão, the Benfica winger, have receded considerably since being drawn against the Portuguese club in the last 16 of the Champions League. Parry said that a January deal for Simão had not been ruled out definitively, but, with Benfica?s adherence to a £10.3 million valuation strengthened by the prospect of facing the European champions over two legs in February, Benítez is now looking at alternatives. Mark González, the Chile winger, will join from Albacete if he is granted a work permit at the second time of asking, while a loan deal for Luciano Galletti, of Atlético Madrid, is being considered as a short-term solution on the right-hand side. Ronald Koeman, the Benfica coach, has indicated that a deal could be possible ? with Simão ineligible to face the Portuguese team if he moved to Anfield ? but Parry told the Portuguese newspaper, O Jogo, that it was unlikely, ?largely because we?re now playing the Benfica in the Champions League?. So we may have to make do with a lower profile wide player after all
KD07 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 No matter the profile, if he can improve the side, he's of the right profile.

Figaro Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Inside Sevilla CF they are saying that we have made a new offer for Daniel Alves - 3m quid in cash plus Josemi. Sevilla don't want to sell Alves before June.

Swan Red Posted December 29, 2005 Author Posted December 29, 2005 Its alright, Simao was cr@p anyway.
Eiler99 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Its alright, Simao was cr@p anyway.1130392 Yep. Galletti was always the better player.
Dalglish Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Wouldn't Alves be a leftsided version of Riise? I heard that he can be used at RM and RB and therefore free up space (Josemi leaves, no RM-specialist needed) in the squad by playing both roles.
Cisse Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 (edited) Alves would be very good as you say Dalglish being able to fill two roles we've weak cover in (RB+RM). A JAR if you'd like but with a bit more flair. I'm surprised by the 3+Josser bid though if we're really serious. I think I remember Fig saying we wid somewhere in the ?10m+ region 12 months ago. Swagger Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 how good/bad is he?1130359 I have not seen him enough to give a proper assessment, but Figaro speaks highly of him, and apparently he was one of the first players Rafa tried to sign when he joined us, so Rafa too must rate him. Josemi + 3m seems like a good deal, leaving Rafa plenty of cash elsewhere. Figaro, you reckon they will be persuaded to sell in January?
Guest monkeytastic Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Wouldn't Alves be a leftsided version of Riise?1130400Isn't Riise a leftsided version of Riise?
Figaro Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Sevilla are now financially stable so they don't have to offload before they can buy. Alves wants to join a bigger club though - he's eligible to play for Spain or Brazil and he wants to be in the limelight more before he makes his choice
