Benitez Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 (edited) Ohhhhhh get in there!!! It was ugly, and we knew it would be. But the best thing was, we matched the cloggers in that sense. But when it really mattered, quality finishing won the day. Crouchy and Djib's finishes where top class. A great team battle tonight, everyone played their part, and some class shone through when it was needed. The referee was fecin awful mind, but we knew that'd be the case. The worst choice of ref for a derby battle. Fussy beyond belief. No sympathy for Phillis Neville, but Arteta's sending off was laughable. And the Bitters will whinge and whinge, ahhh bless em. Guest Red in Holland Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 A richly deserved win, and will be cherished as such. Sublime finishing, nice to see Cisse placing the ball with aplomb in the net. Arteta was hard done by imo.. but with that ref, it was waiting to happen. Yes, they will be bitter. RiH
Nebraska Red Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I thought that early on in the game Poll was letting the players play and not flashing the card as he usually does. However, he had to start dishing out the bookings after so many stupid tackles and complaints. Neville could have been off even earlier had Poll been his usual self. I wasno impressed by Crouch's continual complaining or kewell's reaction to a poor decision (in his opinion). doubyt that Rafa will be too pleased either with those 2 yellows. Everton are a really, really bad side being managed by a clueless idiot. Gollum is beginning to rival Steve Bruce for sheer ineptitude. Although Sissoko had a below par game, I was most pleased tha the did not get involved in the tackling stupidity and did not get a yellow. Perhaps the lad has been advised by an older, wiser Spaniard. Absolutely over the fecking moon right now.
Bootle Buck Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I thought they were lucky we took our foot off the pedal somewhat after Stevie's and Djibs goals. Otherwise we would have absolutely slaughtered them.
Benitez Posted December 28, 2005 Author Posted December 28, 2005 hehe, Carra and Stevie G post match interview Good lads. At least Peter Reid is honest, we had that something extra tonight. Posts merged:I thought they were lucky we took our foot off the pedal somewhat after Stevie's and Djibs goals. But I suspect a half time team talk sorted that out - and we showed it start of the 2nd. That was a class play, great pass by Harry Kewell, and what a finish.
Lee W Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Best thing for me was how we responded after conceding.....and Neville getting sent back where he belongs. With the Mancs dropping points 'tis a very sweet tasting victory indeed.
locutusofliverpool Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Really really pleased with the win, I was really bugged when we lost the corresponding fixture last season. All day I was a tad bit worried that this would be a potential banana skin, but I am so glad the players responded in the manner they did esp after playin a prem game just 2 days ago. IMO the lads didnt play at their very best but the fact that they won 3-1 without really excelling shows how much quality the team has, and no matter how much huffing and puffing everton did, our quality in the end saw us through. Anyone reckon this will be Moyes's last game?

I like you was a bit worried that as form goes out the window with such games, so it could be a banana skin. But the way the lads battled tonight shows that this team has so much about it. Not so much a case that we didnt' play well - cos in such games it's hard to actually play that great, but we showed a readyness to fight as well as play the football that got us the win. It serves us well!
Lee W Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Anyone reckon this will be Moyes's last game?1129907 Nah, they'll give him a bit more time
Benitez Posted December 28, 2005 Author Posted December 28, 2005 they just showed a shot of the bench when Crouchy scored - Pako celebrating like mad
Guest lollyfi Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 everytime they got close we pulled away - that to me is class. old school liverpool

Kenny_ Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Deffo the sweetest victory this season. Another superb team performance from the lads. We really do look something special at the moment. Gerrrrin yer redmen! Love beating those bitter c***s.
Redwire Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Nah, they'll give him a bit more time 1129913 This fella still has faith: In response to this post where I put our recent poor results down to refereeing errors I can't wait to see how you blame the ref for losing the derby Well, we did lose the derby, and without Duncan Ferguson participating our chances were pretty bleak. They won the second ball, and were the better team. Regardless, how about this: * Liverpool 2-0 up within 20 minutes. Both goals are scored by players who shouldn't have been on the pitch. Crouch pushed Lee Bowyer over in their last match, textbook red card. Gerrard then pushed Shearer, and threw a punch at Bowyer, the ref did nothing. In exactly the same situation in our game against Newcastle, Tim Cahill was charged by the FA and missed our next 3. (I'm blaming their previous ref for this). * James Beattie had a goal disallowed. It was no further across the line than Crouch's goal against Newcastle. The linesman flagged wrongly. * Phil Neville gets sent off for a tackle that was nowhere close to being a bookable offense - Sissoko jumped into the air of his own accord, it wasn't a bad foul. * Mikel Arteta, another overly harsh second booking, but by this stage it was all over. And this is solely looking at errors, rather than "bad luck" such as Gerrard's deflected goal. As soon as we lose of our own accord, i'll take a look at Moyes. Whilst our defeats are so clearly the conseqneces of referee mistakes, i've got faith in the present team to turn things around. http://thefilter.blogs.com/thefilter/2005/...h_reaction.html
Andythered Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 The most relaxed I have felt during a derby for feckin years. If I am this confident imagine how our players feel. You can see in the passing, you could see in Djibril's goal. Superb.

The improvements this season speak for themselves With just a few more signings I think we could be on par with Chelsea a lot sooner rather than later. (Hope I don't sound premature saying that) I have one question for David Moyes, which I hope wont challenge his intellect too much... WHO'S THE BEST TEAM IN MERSEYSIDE EH? Btw it was great crouchy scored against the blues, since I heard that the prank to get crouchy nominated for the BBC sports personality award was started by everton fans. If its true, then well done to crouchy for delivering poetic justice to the bitters

Earl Hafler Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 A great team battle, Benitez ? Hmmmmm..you been on the poppers or something ?

George Costanza Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 worst we've plauyed in a while but who cares. resyult all important
stressederic Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 It was a bit bizarre at first. We didn't really seem to do anything and suddenly we were 2-0 up. It's the measure of a team to win games when you play badly, but we weren't playing badly, we were just playing and the goals flowed. Everton's long balls for Kilbane against Finnan were a worry, but Cisse's goal absolutely killed them, it was fantastic. Roll on March, so we can thump them at Anfield.
Redwire Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 How many points are we up on the equivalent games last season? That's another three today.
