Cisse Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 ................according to the Mirror . He has finally realised (it only took you 5 yrs Ollie) that Villa is going nowhere and could leave in January for a knockdown 3m.
Earl Hafler Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Could be a very good signing. Has injury problems but would be excellent, experienced cover / competition for Carra and Sami. I expect a post from Leo to follow and it had better contain his trademark phrase
salkavalka Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 that Villa is going nowhere 1127218Where should A. Villa go, they got that place, 16th.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 I don't think he'd want to be cover.
Guest Les Howard Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Mellberg is average. Never particularly impressed me.I wouldn't even buy him as cover. We let Henchoz go and he's better than Mellberg.
deacon Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 No he's not, not even close. Mellberg is a fantastic defender, excellent in the air, very strong, and can match pacy attackers. Henchoz isn't

Swipe Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Mediocre defender who's been in rubbish form for ages now
Eiler99 Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Decent defender but not as good as he was 2-3 years ago. He wouldn't be first choice here and I don't think he would come to sit on the bench.
Rimbeux Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 He's lost fitness and confidence in the last two seasons, before that he was excellent. Both him and their keeper seem to have gone backwards under the current manager
CarraLegend Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Was brilliant for his first couple of seasons been pretty poor ever since. Keep well away.
Eiler99 Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 He's one of those players we seem to be linked with every year just for good measure. Just like Malbranque.

Both him and their keeper seem to have gone backwards under the current manager1127261 think that's bang on. he's regressed at villa and i'm not sure he'd be a worthwhile signing any more.
Cisse Posted December 26, 2005 Author Posted December 26, 2005 Captains both Villa and the Swedish national team. Yes, he's been not so great lately but a change of environment would do him very good. Has the same winning mentality as Carra and would be a great option for us if we could get him for around 3 mill.
Hassony Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 used to rate him highly, but his concentration is as bad as traore sometimes
Logic Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Doubt he's want to move to us in Jan. He would know he'd get few games which would possibly result in him losing his place in the Swedish team. He won't risk that. We should have gone for him a couple of years ago. He's not the same player as he was.
Benzo-13 Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 He caught Owen once if I remember.. A right determined b***ard when on his game. If re-invigorated? He'd be a worthy aquisition.

He could go injured until May but would still be certain of a place in the national team. Him and Lucic are the only decent centrebacks we have. Agree that he's gone downwards though, two years ago he was one of the best in Europe, but now he's not more than OK.

Perhaps you're right though, haven't been able to watch Sweden as often as I can since I moved from there.
Morgul Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Teddy Lucic still playing for Sweden? 1127325 Yeah, he is And he has actually been very good in the qualifiers
Guest Sundance Kid Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Teddy Lucic still playing for Sweden? Yes, and he has been better than Mellberg.
Logic Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 hehe, cool. I always liked him but that was a couple (several actually) of years ago. Sweden and Spain the teams to follow this summer. Since my own national team seem unable of producing a crop of players capable of anything.
Maldini Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 2 or 3 years ago I'd have been delighted to sign him but he seems to have lost a good bit of pace since his last injury.
