Mad_Fer_It Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 There's more participation, specially since our next match is so far away... So the thread would be little rule changes that have changed the way football is played today... I'll start with: Goalie can't pick up a back pass with their hands...
Guest Kev Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Offside, level used to be off and now it's on.
Gomez Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 (edited) Offside, level used to be off and now it's on.1123652 Subs: Used to be none, then 1, then 2 from 2, then 2 from 3 but one had to be a keeper, then 3, now 3 from 5. Probably some other combinations I missed. Edited December 21, 2005 by Gomez
SkippyjonJones Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Its the yanks that keep trying to change the rules of the game. blame them. obviously
Mad_Fer_It Posted December 21, 2005 Author Posted December 21, 2005 In spain its 3 from 7 (subs) Think it suits clubs with large squads...
Jim D Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Offside, level used to be off and now it's on.1123652 With all the current controversy in the offside rule, I think they should go back to the old way. If an attacker is ahead of the backline despite not "being active" he is offside. Surely any striker who is standing ahead of the backline is clearly seeking to gain an advantage territorially. Rule change: Keeper is allowed to move along his goal line before the ball is struck during a penalty.
Paul B Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Squad numbers. Remember when they wore 1-11 and your favourite player might be wearing a different number each week?
Mad_Fer_It Posted December 21, 2005 Author Posted December 21, 2005 Squad numbers. Remember when they wore 1-11 and your favourite player might be wearing a different number each week?1123679 That must've sucked big time... I like it when players have "their" number...
Gomez Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Goalies and their steps. They used to be only allowed to take 6 steps, now they just have a time limit. Funny that they changed a rule that was hardly ever enforced, for one that is hardly ever enforced.
Herbie von Smalls Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 is this fad of players stuttering in the run-up to a penalty due to a change in the laws? i was sure it used to be a non-starter to interrupt the run up.
Earl Hafler Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Squad numbers. Remember when they wore 1-11 and your favourite player might be wearing a different number each week?1123679 I remember Lawrenson wearing 3 one week and 11 the next. I remember because at the time i thought he must have had a brother. Seriously

Guest RedKiwi Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Extra-time, shoot-outs, golden goal, silver goal Much better when it was just replays forever...
Guest Kev Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 stupid colours for referees kits.Posts merged:leaving the field of play if the trainer comes on.

Gomez Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 stupid colours for referees kits.1123716 Yeah, and keepers had to wear green, and outfield players sometimes ran about with their socks rolled down.
Hassony Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 managers have to stay within their technical area
Guest Les Howard Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Giving the ball back to the opposition after one of THEIR players has feigned injury and interrupted the game. Also - kicking the ball out of play when the above is happening. Taking the ball into the corner to waste time. Moving the ball 10 yards closer to the goal if the opposition complain too much. Thus making it HARDER to get the ball up over the wall and then down again. (Whatever happened to this BTW?) Referree's having agents!!!And 'bent' referrees. Did you know that when Essien did the horror tackle on Ben Haim of Bolton - Rob Styles failed to send him off (He did however Send Gardner off later on for a harsh handball decision). When Essien fouled a spurs player as last man - Rob Styles failed to send him off (but DID send Mido off for an innocuous foul later on). And on Sunday after use of the elbow and then deliberately tripping Lauren when already on a yellow card ( an identical foul for which T Henry WAS booked) - Rob Styles failed to book him again and send Essien off. Coincidence eh? Technical area's for coaches. When did they all of a sudden become part of our game?

Guest roger Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 'drop balls' were previously contested. Now they are gentlemanly affairs of politeness.
Guest Scoff_Cruddle Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Goalies now being able to wear short sleeve shirts, presumably because gloves are worn in all conditions nowadays.
Maldini Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Giving the ball back to the opposition after one of THEIR players has feigned injury and interrupted the game. Also - kicking the ball out of play when the above is happening.1123742British commentators STILL think that started in the UK then moved to Europe rather than the other way around.
