Jezzman Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 (edited) Just saw this at lfchistory.net and couldn't believe my own eyes: Only 21 players in total and only 2 strikers..... ... and even more impressive "Goals scored that season - Overall: 138" Edited December 21, 2005 by Jezzman
Guest VQ Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Just saw this at lfchistory.net and couldn't believe my own eyes: Only 21 players in total and only 2 strikers..... 1122928 I suppose a lot depends on the inclusion of Dalglish as a midfielder. In those days that midfield weighed in with a good share of goals, John Wark had a fantastic eye for goal, if he had been as quick as Rush he would have been as good. regards
Kahnee Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Kenny Dalglish being classed as a midfielder throws some light on that
Jezzman Posted December 21, 2005 Author Posted December 21, 2005 King Kenny did in fact only score 7 goals that season, but Jan the man.... wohaa... Ian Rush 33 Jan Mølby 21 Paul Walsh 18 Ronnie Whelan 14 Steve McMahon 10 Craig Johnston 10 Kenny Dalglish 7 John Wark 6 Mark Lawrenson 5 Kevin MacDonald 5 Steve Nicol 4 Gary Gillespie 3 Jim Beglin 1 Phil Neal 1
muleskinner Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 (edited) Wark and Kenny were more like strikers. Out of those 21 I can't remember Seagraves and McGregor getting many, if any, games at all. Great side that season after the problems of 85, 68 goals between the top 4 scorers. Zoob Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 21 goals for Molby?! I know he took some pens, but 21 goals from a midfielder who isn't quite the scholes or Lamp-pot type is pretty special

Guest trav Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 (edited) We won the European Cup last season with just one fit striker. To make the feat all the more amazing that striker was Milan Baros... Edited December 21, 2005 by trav
David Hodgson Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Johnston and Dalglish featured up front that season.

Guest Parm Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 The King was more of a striker than midfielder and Warky weighed in with a ton of goals. But I do take your point, esp these days when teams talk about having 4 top quality strikers.
Will Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Alan Hansen said of Kevin MacDonald in the double season that he was ?far and away our most influential player?

Guest Kev Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Kevin McDonald was one of our best midfielders in the run in of 86. He deservedly kept his place for the FA Cup Final ahead of Steve McMahon.
DON KOPRANO Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 It's all down to Sammy Lee's assists1122954 "He's short, he's round, his a*** is on the ground, sammy lee, sammy lee"
