Bascombe as good as told us all last summer he has a clause where he can go for £12 million in the summer IF they dont qualify for Europe, I dont know whether that is the champions league or Uefa cup. How high do you have to finish to get in the Uefa cup ? FA cup winners get one place, as do worthington cup winners and I think the 5th place in league.

 

So if one of the big four dont win the worthington or FA cups then they will have to finish at leat 5th or he can go for £12 million

The Barcodes signed MO as a "Lifesaver" and to appease the fans. Could you imagine what will happen if he was to leave now. They already have started building the statue for when he breaks Shearer's goalscoring record. I think Mickey will be there for a while, unless we aggressively try to sign him, and I can't see that happen.

I think it'll be interesting to see what happens with Owen in the Summer, with his £12m get out clause.

 

There is more chance of my 5 a side team making it into Europe then Newcastle, and depending on what we do with Cisse, and what happens with Arsenal and Henry, I think a couple of clubs may well try their luck and tempt young Owen away.

One rumour is that the reduced fee get out clause only applies to one club.

Having just read Balague's book it became apparent that Owen ended up leaving as he wouldn't sign a contract and Rafa thought the money would be better used elsewhere (mostly funding the xabi and luis deals).

 

Apart from the contract situation I can't see the priorities changing - unless the RW and CB deals are structured over the period of the contracts and we would be able to afford Owen. Even then we are second guessing at whether Owen could actually move to two clubs in one season. Whether it's in his contract or not that he can move. Incidentally when he's played for the barcodes they have won something like 6 out of 8 games, and when he hasn't it's something like 1 out of 9.

 

On that form Shephard had better factor in paying off souness and his staff into any potential sale.

Owen can p!ss off. He stabbed us in the back, nay the HEART... TWICE! He should never be allowed to return. He made his bed and now he can lay and weep in it. He left us to win medals, and we should allow him to do that at Newcastle (ha!). We're not good enough for him, since we're obviously not into winning trophies like he is...

Was he under oath? Is there any reason to suggest he is such a paragon of virtue and a lie has never passed his lips? Would he really publicise a clause that advertises newcastle's desperation to sign Owen and Owen's reluctance to join them?

 

Bascombe and Elisha seem pretty certain a clause is there. Whether Rafa decides to act on it after having Owen let him down twice is another thing.

I did think of adding a comment on the quality of the source (the fat man himself) but decided that others will make their own minds up on this. Simply reporting that he is still claiming that no clause exists - he went quite red in the face at the time so that may offer some clue.
