Gilps Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 That should help the youngsters perfect their heading technique
Stevie H Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 bet if they had their way the game would be like 5-a-side and the ball would have to remain below head height.
McBain Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 bet if they had their way the game would be like 5-a-side and the ball would have to remain below head height.1113538 No keepers. 3 balls on the pitch and each session of play lasting 45 seconds
SteveT Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 "....some soccer officials, parents, and physicians around the nation have recently been pushing for more safety measures for young players, including an outright ban on heading, an integral part of the world's most popular sport." Why don't they just invent some other game where they can all wear all-over body armour and play on foam rubber pitches, call it "soccer" or whatever other stupid name they can think up and stop pissing around with real football. Jesus Wept!

I understand that the English FA are investigating the impact of head injuries as well. but why let that get in the way of a bit of yank bashing. you just carry on letting your prejudices run away with you. after all one article means it must be true - musn't it? or perhaps there are other articles out there that counter this? would that be too much of a stretch for you to contemplate? perhaps some of them might even have been written by some other bloody yanks like this one.
Swan Red Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Mike off the high horse eh who's to say he was taking the piss out of yanks rather than just those yanks that are looking to change the very game we grew up loving
Shadow Moon Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 I have seen the program on protective headgear for football, available at http://www.full90.com/ The headgear is not a helmet though.
SkippyjonJones Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Mike off the high horse 1113718 shan't. I like the view from up here Its yanks so its worth bashing seem to be the attitude. I don;t know enough about the gear to know if its worth while and will protect kids - or just a marketing sham. so inthe meantie I'll sit on my horse about the attitude and on the fence about the headgear. shinpads probably got a similar recpetion when first made compulsorary. Headgear may be a good idea- I am not endorsing it or refuting it just based upon the location of the company. Besides they have been approved by Fifa since 2003 - bit late to be making a fuss now.

By the way, the link was interesting.
Swan Red Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 my main issue was with the banning heading and I would tell the writers of the report to feck off from wherever they wrote it kids under 12 shouldn't have to be heading balls anyway if they are coached properly and certainly not balls adults would use
Tyler Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Did many players suffer effects from heading the rain soaked leather balls from before the 80s - must have been like heading a medicine ball. Surely todays balls shouldn't cause damage. Kids are more likely to suffer from poor health due to obesity than from heading a football. This kind of issue is a result of too much funding for stupid committees.
Boca Posted December 14, 2005 Author Posted December 14, 2005 I started the thread and certainly didn't intend it as a yank bashing exercise. I actually came across it while looking for an update on the red sox general manager situation
dorgie Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 With strong evidence of long-term neurological damage among a portion of veteran soccer players Obviously Duncan Ferguson helped them out during their research.

It's all pretty simple really.
