Mobile phone + pricing question

anyone know a service provider who has good deals for international calling / texting?

I'm looking to go to a contract phone but I can't find a decent pricing plan

most seem to have outrageous costs for calling or some sort of calling card method thing..

doesn't really work out cheaper than PAYG...but i need a new handset
