Just to let you know what I have heard tonight. This is from a friend in the legal document profession who got a text this evening. I don't know how reliable the original source is, so please take this with a huge pinch of salt.

 

The information was: Steven Gerrard moving to Chelsea tomorrow for 40m GBP.

 

This may be :spam:. Hopefully it is complete rubbish. Sorry.

And that would leave us with Igor and Didi with regards to central midfielders in the first team squad. Not having a pop mate, but it wouldn't make any sense at all.

 

£40m wouldn't go down too badly though, especially if Rafa has a couple of bods lined up.

I absolutely agree with that Ste. I know it seems highly unlikely, but I thought I should post it just in case.

 

I wonder if Rafa already knows and has lined up suitable replacements?

2 very similar rumours are current causing chaos on Mr Oldhams forum

 

One stated £35 million and it would be done by the end of this week and another saying £40 million by Monday

he'd not play enough games to get one this season :D .

 

I at least would credit Gerrard with wanting to EARN something, rather than just tag along for the ride for 3 and a half months after most of the hard work is done.

not sure to be honest :D

 

I'm sure it used to be at least 10 games, might be totally wrong there :hmm:

 

Any player going there could well have to play pretty much the bulk of games to get one, which isnt a guarantee when they have a perfectly settled midfield doing a good job.

I think it is ten

and you don't have to start all 10, either (like Keown last season)

so he would get a medal

 

and stevie would stroll into their midfield

thats the thing though, as good as SG can be, Chelseas midfield as an unit works very well. And it'd make NO sense IMO to buy him now, (or even in the summer if they could ;) )

Even if Gerrard is buying a place in the capital that doesnt mean hes moving to Chelsea. Maybe he just wants a base in London, plus its a decent investment. I dont know whether Gerrard will be around at the start of next season but im 100% convinced he wont leave the club in this window. Lets face it if we were to sell our best player for £40 million in the window it would have happened at the beginning of the month to give rafa the time to get a replacement.

It's also a tax dodge. A few years back - when our kid worked for one of the 'big 6' accounting firms - they were advising the likes of Fowler, Shearer, et al to invest in property, hence the spate of 'Fowler's moving to Arsenal, he's bought a house in London' or 'Fowler's moving to Man U he's bought Manchester' rumours...
