Alonso or no Alonso, we need to have 2 new central midfielders by the start of next season if we want to do anything. Hamann's gone and Biscan is too inconsistent. Hargreaves is a great shout as a squad player.

 

If we don't get 2 new CMs of a decent standard along with a RM, CB and probably a LB then we won't really be in a position to to make a real impression in my opinion.

What about Thompson or Barton. 2 local lads that wouldnt cost much both would be decent squad players once we have a fully fit squad. Thompson couldof course also play wide right. Both players will always give 110% effort.

This was trailed last week when I said then that we desperately need a good midfielder now that Alonso is out for the season to take some of the weight off Gerrard. If we don't get anyone in, we can forget fourth place. One other thing, IMO I don't think we have ever filled the gap left by the shunting aside of David Thompson. He is certainly better than what we have on the right flank at the moment.

IMO he makes himself look busy by running around like a headless chicken and when he does get the ball is very average.

 

With Alonso out we have been seriously lacking a player with composure on the ball and in Andy Reid the best player in England outside the prem lge would be a steal at 4m.

 

He can play centre mid aswell as on the left wing, he has a great range of passing, is capable of taking on players which we have been lacking, delivers quality set pieces which again we have been lacking and IMO he is Liverpool quality.

 

Without him I fear we will continue to struggle in midfield.
