It’s in inverted commas as some of it is just a morality play as opposed to breaking rules

Where’s your line on this as regards LFC?

I’ve long said that I’m generally happy for us to gain advantages and that morality is for real life but I’m sure I have limits. Or maybe I don’t.

Where does the line start to blur? Deliberate fouls? Diving? Watching a player purposefully make a challenge that is liable to injure the opposition? Getting away with a financial fiddle? Exploiting loopholes in getting young talent? Being owned by money that has its basis in extraction from the public realm? If you could make a deal that meant that Liverpool would score a goal in the last second to secure a crucial result, would you be happy with a completely random bird/dog/human/fish dying as a direct consequence?

I reckon stuff like this isn't seen as cheating as much as a forward diving to win a free kick.

I don't like to see us sign young players with no intention of playing them, only to sell them on for a tidy profit.

I know it's part of the modern game but it doesn't sit well with me.

They get a chance of a lifetime, and if it doesn't work out they get a fantastic football education and move on and find their level elsewhere. 

I do get your point, and there are arguably lads who'd do better just playing at lower levels and working their way up, but I think we mostly do right by our youngsters.

We buy players to loan out for a few years before selling. Taiwo Awoniyi is an example. I doubt he got any football education with us. Maybe the player knows that will happen and wants the higher wage we'll pay until he's sold.

Quick check of his Wiki shows he signed a new deal with us, midway through his series of loans, so he can't have been too unhappy, and he also couldn't get a UK work permit. He could have left if he wanted but chose a new long term deal

Think he did OK, he was at a lower level in Belgium, then did well in Germany and got his permanent deal.

I don't want someone famously horrible like Musk to buy us but I would like someone filthy rich to invest in the city's infrastructure, partly so I can get home from Anfield without walking an hour + / paying £50 uber surge charge for a 3 mile journey / drink driving.

Aye, he was probably happy getting paid more than he would somewhere else. We gave him nothing but money, though. No different to all the players Chelsea bought to sell on a few years ago. Not the ones under Boehly, before that.

Would you be happy with Becker doing that to Rodri/Haaland/whoever and getting away with it? Cos that’s the thrust. What are you prepared to stomach or wish into existence to win.

I've no doubt I'd be happy at the time if Ally did it but would be disappointed after calming down. I want us to win, but not at any cost. Crippling an opponent with a potential career ending challenge, which is what Pickford is risking, is beyond the pale.

It's not for me Gary, unless they play for MU (obviously).

A better example of this is what Ramos did to Mo in the Kiev CL final -  took him out on purpose, disguised it well enough to get away with it and it directly affected the outcome

I dunno, honestly.. yes we'd have another cup, but I f***ing hate Ramos and it would leave a bad taste if he was our player...for me

The Pickford challenge I don't think comes into that particular category of deliberate cheating, he's just a nutter who's a danger to himself and others

He does it loads and it is because he is a cowardly s***house who would willingly create a high risk of significant injury to an opponent (and also of conceding a penalty that would harm his own team) because he lacks the courage to act like an actual goalkeeper and maybe get a ball in the mush.

He's the dirtiest player in the country and he's a f***ing goalie.

People seem to love the story of Souness story breaking a player's jaw. I think most people accept a lot of stuff when it's their team benefitting.

I'd love to win the European Cup. I'd tolerate that way of doing it. I'd not celebrate the actual incident unless it was against an individual we had actual beef with as opposed to someone who just happens to play for a club I don't like as well as being dead good.
