That form he hit just before he left was insane. He might have won the Ballon D’or if we didn’t get butwe’rerealmadrided in the final.

Had his leg genuinely fallen off by the following season. I think we would have won the league last season (admittedly 2 seasons after he left) if he was upfront instead of Darwin.

It doesn’t seem like anyone big has bought a good striker since Haaland. I spose Kane but the point being that there doesn’t seem to be anyone on the way up. Everyone loved Ferguson this time last year but he seems to have disappeared. Having said that, his replacement in that team has looked f***ing sharp when I have seen him this season

I found it strange that many insisted that we wouldn’t and didn’t miss Sadio. It was bizarre. Agree that we would have another league title had he stayed.

Saw him scoring for Senegal the other night.  Feels like he never ever missed.  Should have had a better song imo.

He was absolutely finished by the time he left

Klopp asked the recruitment team to buy him. Thank f*** he did. He was instantly out best player and transformed us as a team. We were crap in his first season when he was injured.

Seen a fair bit of Portuguese footie over the past few years and Gyökeres impresses every game. Believe he is 26, coming to his peak. If Numez doesn’t cut it this season I’d really think the Sweden striker could be a great player for us.

I kind of lose track of time a bit but it feels like that last 6 months or so of form came from nowhere a bit after a year or so of being pretty meh.

But dunno.

He was absolutely unplayable for a few years though. I always thought of all of them he was the one who had the potential to just explode to a Suarez-like level. Never quite happened and Salah will rightly be remembered as the greater player but he was just magnificent at his peak. Probably just best to take the two of them and Bobby as a collective. What a time.

I loved the Diaz goal against Brentford the other week cos it took me back to a time when I was genuinely excited when the opposition got a corner.

I agree. 1996-1999 was a golden period. Each one was a chance to prove the lads could do it this time

Definitely lost something post covid, but did great in these 6 months in a central position before he left

I liked him elbowing defenders in the head. They realised very early he'd bully them if they tried it with him.

Crazy we were lucky enough to have Firmino, Salah and Sadio in the same team at the same time. All three were the perfect professionals and Jurgen must have been pinching himself having them at his disposal.

I think he left a psychological hole in the team as much as anything else. He was still a leader, a warrior, even if he had slowed.

He was great when he moved central after Diaz came in, prior to that for first half of that season and the one previous to it, his form had dropped right off, which was still better than most forwards in the league

2016-2019 or was there some halcyon period involving fowler, redknapp and mcmanaman blending into early heskey and Owen that I'm struggling to recall?

The switch to the centre helped him 

There was a period where I think Sadio was the superior player but obviously less prolific

I watched him live twice with Al Nasser last season,  I think i can outrun him nowadays

He was great for us. Incredible player will go down as a Legend no doubt. Possibly left at the right time.

Mané probably looked fondly at due to Diaz not hitting the same heights but that’s a measure of how good Sadio was.

So was Milner and Henderson, but once ther ability dropped, it was an issue. 

At the very least the squad would have been stronger with him around. Many a player leaves the club and never hit the same heights for various reasons. Doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have contributed if he had stayed, even if it looked like the right time to leave.
