We really can just go top and stay there. I bet Anfield will be absolutely buzzing and the boys will be so so ready to go.

saltysam Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Not seen much of Brighton this season, their results seem a bit mad, with 5-0 away wins and heavy defeats mixed in. I know they have become a bit of a nuisance to us, we haven't beaten them in the last four games so i'm hoping they turn up in heavy defeat mode.

They’ll get a score draw at anfield then let the blues smash them at the Amex again. No you get over it.
YugoB Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 (edited) Defensively we have been crap in a few games recently [Really good v City, atrocious v United yesterday and in Prague], United who have scored only 39 goals in the league all season, scored 4 yesterday, with 28 shots on our goal. we've had to do loads of rotating due to injuries of course, and I'm sure it doesn't help but Brighton who blow hot and cold, can hurt you when you play as poorly defensively as we have. We were fine in every game but yesterday, we have been fine since Arsenal. We will be fine again, most likely until we have to go to OT again. Edited March 18, 2024 by Jarg Armani
YugoB Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Except we weren't, the defending was non existent in Prague who couldn't finish their dinners, they got far too many open looks than they should have. We won so who cares, but the problem that existed on that night, was an issue yesterday. You can't have the opposition at any level, have 28 shots on your goal.

Yes but those problems have been present for most of the season and we are still top. In fact I would say we have defended better in the recent Kelleher period than at any other time this season. Forest away, Brentford away, LC final, City at home as you say. I think you might just be in a mood because we lost. It’s fine, but don’t reevaluate the baby out with the bath water.

Yeah, just a bad day at t'office. s*** happens, just s*** had to happen at old toilet, of all places.
YugoB Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 (edited) I'm not using the LC as an example because of the obvious massive changes we had to make for that game, but the notion that we defended well in that game is nonsensical. We did well given the situation and the context of the game, but Chelsea had chances, very good ones that Kelleher had to save and did brilliantlly. Again, we did well in the context of the situation but we gave up 19 shots on goal, 9 on target, their XG was 2.28 Chelsea and United have been poor all year long with scoring chances [Chelsea in finishing them, they create more than united], but we didn't defend well, again I used the Manc game yesterday which was poor by all metrics defensively. You don't give up 28 shots on goal on average and maintain the position that we do, so the suggestion that our defending has been like this all year, is OTT. The loss has nothing to do with what I'm saying, I posted when we beat Sparta in Prague, and I had a problem with how poor we were defensively leading up to the City game. We performed incredibly well against City, defensively included, but my thoughts about recent games I mentioned and the patterns are the same in those examples. I bring it up in this coming game, Brighton are inconsistent, but they do have the ability to hurt a team if we aren't more serious about how we defend ala yesterday. You can't afford to give up 28 shots, consistently game after game and expect it not to be a problem. We haven't done that this year in all of our games, otherwise we wouldn't be in our position but that's why I mentioned those games recently. Edited March 18, 2024 by YugoB
