The story goes as follows

1. A very very distant relative of mine has passed away

2. My close relative was told by the deceased and subsequently from the deceased close friends that the deceased left the estate to this relative

3. We can't find the will currently and given the nature of the deceased it could be likely that a will was never done, or at worst was a lie.

4. It turns out that the estate may have significant debts

My questions are as follows

1. What happens if there is no will?

2.Does the beneficiary inherit the debts?
