Very sad he’s got terminal cancer. Always thought he seemed to be a pretty chilled out and likeable guy. Love that it has always been his dream to manage Liverpool, and totally behind this campaign for him to do so for the legends game. I hope we make it happen!

I'm also in the camp. Would be a fantastic gesture from the club to allow this. The likes of Sven and Houllier were probably 2 of the nicest, honest and kind hearted managers around during that time.

On the Houllier aspect I've been thinking for a while that the club didn't really do quite enough to mark his death. The fact it came during lockdowns and no crowds etc was obviously difficult and his time as manager didn't end brilliantly, but still. I'm not even sure what 'doing more' would look like. But it's just a feeling I've had for a while.

Maybe not on the pitch per se but doesn't the club have it's own department that reaches out to the family, offer support, stay in touch with any requests and that type of thing?

I think it would be a great gesture to make and feels exactly like the type of thing that makes this club special. My son has finally caught the bug so we've got tickets for the game. Should be a decent day out.

Oh yeah probably so. But I was thinking more along the lines of the 'on pitch' stuff or memorial aspect. I'm not sure if Ged deserved a statue but I'm not even sure if there's a plaque up for him at Anfield.

The comparison to Houllier is spot on. I was all for Sven to take over at the time when there were rumours about him and Liverpool and I didn't even know he was a Red. Always thought he came across as a nice, kind person and a good manager too.

This.

The treble year was fantastic and a million miles from the mediocrity of the 90's.

I've said it before, any other club, there'd be a statue for him by now after THAT season.

Genuinely one of the best seasons I've had supporting us. Playing basically every 3 days, having a great time. It was a huge amount of fun.

Yeah I agree. Admittedly Liverpool managers get measured against a pretty steep curve of comparison but regardless, it doesn't sit right with me how he's effectively disappeared from the club's memory.

Three trophies in a season and probably doesn't make it into our top 5 managers. We've been pretty fortunate.

Agree it would be nice to have a memorial of some sort.

I saw a clip of Heskey on the latest This Is Liverpool going on about exactly that - 63 games

And I don't know if Mme Houllier is still with us but it'd be nice if they could do it whilst she was maybe still able to attand the unveling.

And then do the same for Rafa.

A statue could be like the Best/Law/Charlton holy trinity but the three people who really inspired that treble.

Ged/Thommo/Fyds

Lovely.

I think Fyds should be stirring a malaysian curry at the same time, with his other hand.

The Nasser Hussain to Rafa’s Michael Vaughan, for me.
