What are my plans for Invision Community Suite v5?

At this time - none.

The software is not available yet, so it is not possible to make a decision on whether existing resources will, or even can, be upgraded to provide the same functionality as they do on v5 (or even if they are required - you never know what may get added to v5)

<UPDATE 13th August 2024>
I have had a few emails asking for an update of this now that I seemingly have a copy of the software. I am not one of the developers who has been given a copy of the software, so the situation remains the same.

Additionally, if and when I am provided with access to a copy of the software I may not be able to spend much time looking into it - I've got a day job that isn't doing this stuff, and am working on several projects which take up some of my personal time - therefore time is limited outside of work hours at present.

<UPDATE 6th September 2024>
I obtained access to the new software on Tuesday just gone (3rd) and have taken a quick look to see how things are done differently. Time is still limited my side, but hopeful to be able to mark a few items as 'Reviewing' & 'Planned' soon enough.
<UPDATE ENDS>

When the software is available, I will be taking my time to review the new functionality available, as well as the new development tools that are to be included, and then reviewing my resources.

Each resource here has a field called "v5 version" - and this field will be modified to reflect the 'current state' after v5 is released. The possible options (and explaination of their meaning) for this field are:

  • Unknown at this time
    • Nothing decided at this time.
  • No plans to update
    • A decision has been made to not update the application to support v5.
  • Reviewing (necessity and possibility)
    • I am reviewing whether the resource is needed and, if so, whether it is possible to provide the same features.
  • Planned
    • A decision has been made to update the resource.
  • In progress
    • The new version is in development.
  • Available
    • The new version is available
    • Note the following:
      • As Invision Community Suite v4 and v5 will both be available at the same time, so will the resource.
      • A link to the new version listing will be provided.
      • Only currently known purchases (where no renewals are required) and active renewals at the time of release will be added to the new listing.
        • If you purchased via Invision's Marketplace, then you need to redeem your marketplace key and renew the expired purchase, if there is one.
        • It is in your own interestes to renew any expired purchases sooner rather than later.
        • If you redeem a key after the v5 version release, or renew after the v5 version has been released, then you will need to pay full price on the resource.
  • 1 year later...

This topic will provide a summary of the status of my reviews and plans for updating resources to support Invision Community v5.

Note:

  1. As I take a look at things, I'll be updating the "v5 version" on the resource's entry on the marketplace here to reflect current state.
    • That same change will be reflected on this topic.
  2. If you don't see a specific resource below then it's an indicator that I haven't looked at it yet to determine the necessity and feasibility of making it available for Invision Community v5.

No plans to update:

  1. (NE) Kindness
    • Reason: no desire to upgrade it.
  2. (NE) Add Facebook Chat Plugin
    • Reason: the functionality is no longer available via Facebook.
  3. (NE) Add 'Preview' button to Editor instances
    • Reason: there is no 'Preview' functionality in the new editor.
  4. (NE) Mention list enhancements
    • Reason: no longer possible to use a code hook into the editor module where the mention() function exists.
  5. (NE) Box of Tricks
    • Reason: it's loads of hooks; no desire to see if possible to do the same thing in v5 for a free resource.

In the process of being reviewed (necessity & possibility)

  1. (NE) 'Contact Us' enhancements
    • Note: this will not be updated in its current form, as it is not possible to hook into the functionality used when sending an email via the contact form. However, I am working with someone else on a solution to this situation, and will update here once completed.
  2.

Planned to be updated:

  1. (NE) New member awareness
  2.

In progress:

  1. (NE) Hide content
  2. (NE) User Annoyance
  3. (NE) Quick Escape

Completed & in testing:

  1.

Completed & available:

  1. (NE) Crisp Chatbox integration
  2. (NE) Application update checker
