With the season almost upon us, I can't remember a time I've felt less interested in it all. The lack of investment in the squad over the last few seasons was always going to catch up with us, and this has now been compounded with the increase in state money elsewhere.

Football has been broken for a while in reality but this feels (to me at least) like a major turning point within the game. I reckon if we were to have a change in ownership and have an unrestricted budget, I'd be a hypocrite and get excited at the prospect of Mbappe 2024, but I'm not sure it would ever have the same feeling as it did.

Off to take my miserable outlook out with the dog before overreacting (positively or negatively) at the result of the friendly at 7! 😀

Yep, every season, a little bit gets eroded.

Fifa selling rights to women’s football to highest bidder at the expense of growing the game, saudi, chelsea and PL lack of action on city, chelsea are highlights.

Yeah, to be that unprepared for the opening game is mad.

Still fancy us to win, weirdly.

That’s a damning indictment of the summers work (and arguably the last 18 months)

It’s the kind of comment you’d make if you had an injury crisis or a midfield made up of players all of which were going to AFCON.

Not, we let everyone leave and haven’t gotten round to replacing them having only had 18 months notice it was happening or gonna happen.

Was a bit surprised that Jones didn't play as a six when he came on last night. Thought he was nailed on to start there against Chelsea but maybe not.

Non existent midfield

Yeah, well we HAVE a non-existent midfield.

Don’t think Szob is quite ready, so I’d start Elliott. Think if Jones was ready to play there he’d have played #6 last night. Gakpo needed for work rate as an #8.

I don’t think it suits him. I’d go Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and him in midfield though. In a flat 3. And a back 4.

Yeah but we have Jones who can stick a foot in. Why just empty the zone and make it worse.

It is a fair point and I'd have been happy with it if Jones had started last night.  This makes me think maybe the manager doesn't see him there against Chelsea.  Mac A can stick a foot in as well.  Dunno. I'd be happy to see Jones, Mac A, Gakpo as the three.

This is my XI.  I'm not entirely happy with it either.  We won't line up like that in any case.
