Always look forward to seeing the younger players in games like this, it'll be a nice break from the stress of important games. Something like

Kelleher

Ramsay Gomez Konate Tsimikas

Bajcetic Milner Doak

Ox Nunez Carvalho

Posted

Largely agree with Gethin's team but I think Jones could do with a ninety minutes here. As I always say when he starts against lower league teams in the Carabao - he needs to start showing he can boss the midfield.

Gomez needs a confidence booster.

I'd also select Minamino, Origi and Mane.

Don't need Konate anywhere near this. Put Phillips in. I wouldn't be starting Nunez either. Give Doak a start or Cannonier. What about that new lad , Keita?

Is Gordon still out injured?

Id play nunez - id expect Tsimi, phillips, kelleher, Ramsey, Gomez, carvalho, doak, ox, jones. They’ll also be someone we’ve never talked before who suddenly appears and looks amazing.

I'd swap Phillips for Konate.

Wouldn't play Nunez either. Who is the young striker, Clarke?

Given our horrendous injuries and even allowing for fact that we only have one more game after this before the WC break, I'd be surprised and annoyed to see Konate or Nunez start (nor any of the others that started against Spurs). Gomez, Ox, the Greek all fine. Milner too if fit.

The Reds host Derby County in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night and then face Southampton at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday – their last games before the break for the World Cup.

James Milner will come back into contention for the second of those fixtures following a concussion, while Naby Keita’s availability for the weekend will be assessed.

Joel Matip is unlikely to return in time to face Saints, though Lijnders was able to report a positive upcoming step in Luis Diaz’s recovery from the knee issue he sustained last month.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the assistant manager said: “Naby will be difficult, he’s still training individually. Let’s see for Southampton.

“Millie will definitely be ready for Southampton but this game [against Derby] comes too early for tomorrow.

“Then we have of course Joel, who is getting closer to team training but will not make Southampton probably.

“The longer injuries, Luis Diaz is running for the first time on Thursday. That’s good news because we all know how important he was last year and in the second half of the season.

“And Jota will take longer.”
