Chewie Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 Needs a rebuild Henderson can't do 90 Milner only good for 30 Keita and Ox just not enough Fabinho solid Thiago has one more year Elliott just too young at this moment to build around Jones always going to be a squad player 2

Kvarme Ate My Food Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 We need one more really good midfielder, we knew that before tonight 2 2

It needs legs but its a midfield that got us this far - its not an anchor on the team holding it back but an area of the field that need natural evolution like the rest of the key areas - namely front 3. 1
Cheesecake Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 Hendo, Mane, Firmino all on the downslope. Milner Ox Keita seen better days. Jones Elliott yet to make an impression worthy of a starting spot

vitch Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 Sell AOC, Keita, Curtis. Get in a solid midfielder to replace Keita, and a young star to replace Hendo.
Flanders Posted May 28, 2022 Posted May 28, 2022 The midfield needs a new face but it’s fine for next season. Priority bar none is the player through the middle. None of our chaps are strikers, maybe Jota but he isn’t World Class.

When he has a chance, invariably it’s 50/50 that he puts it away. I’m not moaning. We’ve only been a few goals short of winning everything! We have an amazing team but, at this level, the margins are fine. Shying away from a 30 year old because there’s no resale is not a good plan. These days, potentially no top player gives his club a resale value.
growler Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Not ready to throw it all out yet. hendo, Thiago, fab, jones, elliott is a good base. Needs one more at least this summer and another next summer (bellingham?). we do still need a finisher up top. Carvalho could be that but he’s still a kid himself. 5 subs in cl and league will make a difference though. Lots more minutes for the squad. Means more protection for hendo Thiago and more minutes for the kids too.
Tosh Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Thiago has one more year? Modric is 36. There’s a job for Thiago beyond one more year.

muleskinner Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Thiago has been amazing, plenty of life in him yet.
Rusty Shackleford Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 It’s obviously the place in the side you’d look at and think we could most improve. It’d be nice to have a genuinely creative midfielder capable of driving forward with the ball, or indeed a younger lad with proper legs. There are question marks to some degree over almost all of our midfielders. Quite a few relate to fitness, durability and general availability but on top of that I’m not convinced a number of them are good enough either.
muleskinner Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 A whisker from winning everything but they are suddenly not up to it. Yeah OK. We will buy and keep progressing, they aren't stupid people running this team. 4

Dominus Maximus Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 If we need two then Eriksen could be one of them. Fits the profile and is on a free.

Also 100% agree the people running this team are brilliant and will make the progress... And that progress will involve the evolution of the middle cos even on the morning after I reckon most of the points in the first post are fair enough.. They've been the best team of my life. We'll go again. Book the hotel...
Gethin Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Realistically nothing's changed from before KO yesterday. Ox will probably leave, Milner may or may not get renewed and we'll bring in a decent midfielder - probably one that none of us know that well. Reckon the only way we're getting two new midfielders in is if Jurgen admits defeat with Naby and decides we need to upgrade Fab, Hendo, Thiago, New player, Naby/replacement, Elliott, Jones, Milner is plenty good enough
D.Boon Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 We were poor in midfield but Fab was miles from fit, he barely moved. Thiago not much fitter. Hendo has looked cooked for a few weeks sadly. We need to be replacing Keita with proven quality and maybe one more to develop who could give some depth..

I would say we need a striker more than a creative midfielder. Mo may have won the Golden Boot but he blows hot and cold too much for my liking. Mane is brilliant but again not a clinical finisher. Ditto Diaz and Firmino.
Ibby Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Nunez and a top midfielder should do it but doubt we will spend that much
