It's a f***ing shambles in all 3 terminals at Manchester Airport at the minute. Loads of stories in the local rag of folks just going home and coming back a few days later to see if their cases are there in the arrivals hall. Same with departures. Very understaffed. I think it's a combination of scheduling too many flights before they'd recruited back all the positions they'd let go due to covid, and covid working it's way through through everything as all preventive measure have been taken away.
