Played in midfield for a bit as well didn't he

Lovely footballer

He’s a tale of how one bad injury wrecked a career. The Achilles at Valencia.

Super footballer.

We could probably get a really decent 11 out of the pool of players we've had who have been perma-crocked.  In some parallel universe where they are always fit, they are the best team we ever had. Well, maybe not but you know what I mean....

Should start a thread on that. "The All-Sick-Note XI"

Rob Jones has to be in there.

Our greatest ever sick note was of course Degen. He took the sick note to a new level. But he was garbage when he was fit so he doesn't get in.

That’s better than mine.

Still though, I think the criterion should be “would have been an all time great if they weren’t always injured” and I’m not sure Thomas or Aquilani qualify

Thomas I’d agree with as Arsenal did offload him and he was one of their own. What’s weird with Aquilani was that he was a huge prospect at Roma until the ankle break. He never really got that out of his head.

If that's the criteria Owen & Fowler don't really qualify either as they're "too good" for the list. They're considered Liverpool all time greats regardless (however much it pains to say that about Owen, but he was class on the pitch).

Viewing it from the perspective of a "what could have been" list perhaps makes more sense. Litmanen & Kewell are perfect examples of players we never saw the proper best of. And would a fit Sturridge have won us the league in 13/14 and turned him into a Liverpool legend?

Stensgaard

Now I'd never heard of this guy so I went to LFC History to have a look. His page comes back with a "404 Not Found" error which is brilliant.

https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/486

So I googled him and his Wiki is even better

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Stensgaard

Quote

He arrived at Liverpool to succeed Bruce Grobbelaar as understudy to David James, and was issued the number 13 shirt during his time at the club.[4] He became known for a bizarre injury which ended his chances of breaking into the Liverpool first team, as he dislocated his shoulder when setting up an ironing board soon after joining the club.[5] The injury evolved into a recurring shoulder ailment requiring surgery,[6] and he never played a first team game for the club.

If we're including Fowler who was never the same after his big injury, i'd have Sturridge and Barnes in there too
