NE, would the change from username log-in to email log-in have precluded so many old forumites from coming back and paying their respects to Swan Red? 

I guess a number - some of whom haven't been on here for 10 or 12 years - will be registered with long-defunct email addresses. Hopefully they've seen the warnings to update their registered email addresses. And, to he honest, I'm stunned they've remembered their passwords! 

Obviously the change needs to happen but will there be a facility for such users to email or message admin and be given access in such events?

Please log out of the forum and read the information present in the announcement visible to Guests at the moment (titled "Trying to login to an old account?") - I've covered all possible situations there, and people have the ability to contact me directly via that login page if they run into any issues.

The change to email address login only hasn't yet taken place, so it can't preclude them yet.
