4 refs have been promoted to "Select Group". Jarred Gillett, Tony Harrington, Michael Salisbury and John Brooks.

Gillett is the most interesting. First Australian to referee in this country and has done 2 seasons in the Championship. Already has a FIFA badge and used to being miked into the PA from the A-League. The video of him reffing his last A-League match is really good.

Doesn't look like anybody has been dropped or even retired. Deano is still on the list at 53. Atkinson, Marriner and Moss still around.

EDIT: The name of Lee Mason is missing from the list. How sad.

I like the sound of that Aussie, I reckon he’ll be on ours. Studied at John Moores didn’t he?

Edit of his last A-League match. Whole game is available

Just on Sky right now is a re-run of the League Cup final of 2010 when this happened

Dowd gives the pen but doesn’t even book Vidic. Staggering.

Ferguson had so many of these f***ers in his pocket

For a brilliant defender, he made some dreadful tackles/decisions at times did Vidic.

Torres got in his head regularly.

Gerrard said Hyypia was up there with Nesta and Cannavaro in terms of how good he was. But he pretended to think Joe Cole was like Messi too.

yeah - generally you can take such utterances with a pinch of salt. It's to goto of manc fans when they want to assert Scholes as being better than Lampard/Gerrard.

just did a google of PLs best CBS - there are loads of these type articles about

https://www.sportbible.com/football/best-premier-league-centre-backs-of-all-time-20211011 = No Sami (Bruce is 10th ffs), Vidic is 7th

https://khelnow.com/football/top-10-premier-league-centre-backs-all-time - no Sami (Bruce is 8th, ffffs), Vidic is 4th

https://howtheyplay.com/team-sports/The-10-Best-Centre-Backs-in-Premier-League-History = no Sami, Vidic 6th

https://www.squawka.com/en/greatest-centre-backs-in-premier-league-history-john-terry-van-dijk/ = Sami 13th, Vidic 5th

Remember a Keegan's article about CBs talking about top 3 at the time  being Sami, Campbell and Ferdinand,  and his first choice was Sami

Definitely should be top 10, lack of league title counts against him

I'd say he's 4th in the premiership for us, with Virgil, Matip and Carragher ahead of him

Howard Webb is planning to recruit ex players in to the reffing ranks.

Should get that Polish ref who did the WC final

Don't know why they don't look at recruiting the best refs from abroad, I'm sure many would jump at the chance

Loads would love to come to England and get paid far more than they do now.

Vidic in line to be the "last man in defense" specialist.

Rooney to look after politeness and decorum when speaking to officials.

He's being interviewed on radio 5 at the minute, quite interesting. Sounds as though he wants to make the emphasis on it only being used for 'clear and obvious errors'

I presume you're taking about VAR.

Yes, it was quite an interesting q & a on what he wanted to do with VAR. Assuming this is what we can expect to see going forward
